Whetman Plants International is a wholesale grower and producer of rooted cuttings sold worldwide. The vacant position is in the research department where we develop new Dianthus Pinks varieties which will be launched around the world.
The successful applicant will participate in a variety of activities such as standard plant growing tasks (watering, propagation, potting, maintenance of the crops etc.), and most importantly participating in the breeding work, eg: assessment and data input from trials, pollination, collecting and cleaning seeds.
A keen interest and some experience in horticulture and/or plant breeding, willingness to work under glass or outside, ability to stand for long periods and to lift, basic computer skills, are all desirable.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic individual with good organisational and time management skills, able to work on his/her own or as part of a team. The understanding of the importance of keeping records, attention to details and following protocols is a must.
Own transport necessary as no public transport to the nursery.
Hours: 39h per week + some weekends.
Duration: Full Time, starting in April 2019.
