The role:

Strategy

Actively participate in the development and implementation of short, medium and long term operational and strategic plans and budgets

Develops and owns a long term operations strategy to ensure that there are robust plans in place to support the overall business strategy

Leadership

To provide effective leadership and coaching to develop a high level of motivation within areas of responsibility

Safety and Environmental

Create a safe working culture with zero tolerance to accidents

Proactive involvement in Total Observation Process (TOPS) tours

Ensure colleagues comply with all health, safety and environment standards

Continuous Improvement

Identify and improve processes and systems to make sustainable lasting improvements.

Drive a lean manufacturing culture within the factory

Product Quality

Ensure product quality is of the highest standard

To develop a quality culture with employees that leads to continuous improvement of product quality

Ensure that relationships with retailer technical managers are maintained

Ensure that site meets all audit requirements

Planning

Work with commercial team to ensure that supply is maintained to all customers

This will be by delivering the daily/weekly plan in line with forecast to enable the manufacture and packing of products in a cost-effective manner or to agreed supply/stock levels as agreed with commercial in advance.

Production

Ensure that production is operating efficiently

Track and report key functional metrics to reduce cost, improve utilization and improve effectiveness

Lead cross functional teams in identifying, implementing projects to realise cost and efficiency improvements.

Engineering

Agree setting of the machine down time targets with the Engineering Manager

Ensure there is an effective programme of PPMs that is being adhered to

To coordinate with both Planning & Engineering to manage maintenance priorities and ensure these are planned to minimise production disruption

Manage capital investment projects with the Engineering Manager

Training and Development

To effectively lead, develop and motivate employees towards high standards of personal performance

To ensure all direct reports have an annual appraisal in line with agreed timeline with HR and that their subordinates are also appraised in the same timeframe.

Establish and monitors progress against a staff training plan, as agreed as part of the annual appraisal process.

To support in the motivation, management and development of production staff. To identifying training and development and ensure an effective, multi-skilled and engaged workforce is developed.

The person:

Operations/food manufacturing/factory background and will have successfully managed and led sizeable teams

Core operational experience from a manufacturing background where you have experienced organisational change

Demonstrable skills in the optimisation of costs (e.g. best practice / Lean techniques / Six Sigma)

Well-versed in the management of core operational KPI's

Excellent leadership skills; someone who can inspire teams and develop individuals

Professional experience controlling budgets, with responsibility for P&L.
