Some children and young people who are 'looked after' by a Local Authority have no contact with their parents or such infrequent contact that it is of little benefit to them.
To safeguard and promote their interests, the Targeted Youth Support Service are looking to appoint an Independent Visitor Coordinator who will manage a team of voluntary and independent mentors. These mentors will befriend, assist and advise young people and develop long term and trusted relationships, providing a positive adult role model through their life stages and undertaking shared interests and activities together.
This is a new service development opportunity and the successful candidate will be expected to recruit, train and develop a team of adult mentor volunteers who have expressed an interest in supporting young people in a voluntary capacity, outside of any other professionals involved in their care. The postholder will be expected to liaise with statutory agencies and provide supervision and support to a pool of volunteers, as well as having budget responsibilities for trips, visit and expenses. The voice of young people will underpin the development of this service and their involvement will be fundamental.
