Progress Coach

This post is based at the Huddersfield centre of Kirklees College, but flexibility to travel to all centres is required.

Kirklees College is a large successful FE college, currently Ofsted graded as Good. Operating across Kirklees with centres based in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a modern building, with excellent on-site facilities, such as a fully equipped gym, hair & beauty salons and fine dining restaurant.

Hours: 37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Student Support Department at Kirklees College. Although the post may be based at the Huddersfield Centre, or one of our other sites, flexibility to travel to other college sites is required of the successful candidate.

The overall purpose of the post is to work in collaboration with curriculum staff and internal/external agencies to support students where behavior and attendance issues are cause for concern. Progress Coaches deliver focused, planned sessions within the college tutorial PAD Programme to all 16-19 students on F/T study Programmes, as well as carrying out 1:1 academic reviews.

Progress Coaches provide effective coaching for students, who are 'at risk', on an individual basis or in a group setting, to support positive behavior and progression. Tracking and monitoring along with evidencing all interventions on Pro Monitor is key to this role. This role also has safeguarding responsibility.

The ideal candidates will have previous experience of working with 16 - 19 year olds, including disengaged 'hard to reach' students and be able to understand the range of support which may be necessary to help them succeed. You will have experience of working with students who demonstrate challenging behavior, with evidence of positive outcomes. You will need excellent communication skills, a commitment to the welfare of young people in education and a willingness to undertake relevant staff development.

The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and a Level 3 qualification relevant to the post e.g. BTEC, NVQ, A-Level equivalent. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
