The Firm

At Addleshaw Goddard we not only provide technical excellence and experience but, crucially, demonstrate real insight into our clients and what really matters to them. A natural choice for FTSE100 clients and for the best talent, our people fulfil their potential in an environment where they are developed and valued. They think in our clients' shoes, as part of a team - effective business people as well as efficient lawyers.

Our Requirements

We are looking for a junior associate to join our team and help service our ever growing roster of major infrastructure, energy and utilities, transport, health, local authority and central government clients. Matters we are currently working on include advising:

the Department for Transport on the high profile West Coast Trains franchise;
Network Rail on the multi billion pound ETCS project involving "in-cab" electronic signalling;
SSE on their smart metering programme, offshore wind work and carbon capture
National Grid on various matters, having recently joined their panel;
Scotia Gas Networks on the GBP400m Gas to the West project
An FTSE 100 international food and retail group on utility arrangements and a variety of renewable energy infrastructure projects
Airport City on utility arrangements at Manchester Airport
Several renewable energy projects (wind, solar, biomass, Anaerobic digestion) for clients such as Peel Group, John Laing, Balfour Beatty
Microgeneration Certification Scheme on arrangements for the separation of the scheme from the Department of Energy and Climate Change
A lender on its potential participation in the Irish Courts PPP for the development of courthouse buildings across Ireland
Advising KCom Group PLC on the sale of its national dark fibre network to CityFibre Limited, in a deal described by CityFibre's CEO as 'the most significant event to take place in the UK's digital infrastructure market in a decade

As this shows, we have a fantastic variety of work. It's not just big ticket, high pressure transactions though - we also do a whole range of smaller matters, providing a great arena for juniors to gain experience in a supportive environment. There is an opportunity to specialise, or gain experience in, many different areas. Some team members have a particular focus - for example corporate infrastructure/energy transactions, public procurements and/or real estate aspects of infrastructure.

This is reflected in the background of team members - you do not need to have worked in a "Projects" team before. We have alumni from banking, construction, corporate, real estate and other areas - as well as engineering and museum curation (as we are a diverse team with some members enjoying second careers). In essence we advise on commercial contracts relating to energy, infrastructure, transport and many types of public/private sector transactions - a great grounding for junior lawyers.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

You will have:

0-3 years PQE (but we may be interested in more experienced candidates, particularly with a corporate or real estate background, and in current trainees)
The ability to actively support complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed
The ability to contribute to the general upkeep of the group (whether that be to training, precedents, or know-how generally)
A proven record of a high standard of client care for existing clients at the highest level.
The enthusiasm to market to clients
Displays a knowledge of key areas of the law by providing clear, precise, practical advice

The successful candidate will have:

Excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent
Strong commercial awareness - but most importantly a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in infrastructure, energy and transport
Excellent organisation skills
Proven team working abilities

Addleshaw Goddard is an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications from diverse backgrounds and communities
