Senior Paralegal

GBP30,956 - GBP36,418 (subject to experience)

About us:

The General Dental Council is the regulator of professional standards in dentistry in the UK. We are a statutory corporation, independent of both the dental profession and of Government, although we work closely with both.

Our job is to ensure that dental care is delivered only by suitably qualified professionals with current expertise who understand and take seriously their obligations to patients. We regulate across the whole dental team - dentists, hygienists, nurses, orthodontists and technicians.

About the role:

We are now seeking to appoint an additional Senior Paralegal within our In-House Legal Prosecution Services (ILPS) Team. This is a newly created post which will see the successful candidate work alongside our existing Senior Paralegal and absorb 50% of their line management responsibilities. Each Senior will be responsible for the support and development of four Paralegals. By reducing the number of direct reports, there will be additional time for you to be involved with more complex cases and escalations.

The In-House team was set up in July 2013 in order to provide legal services to the GDC. As a team, we provide legal services in preparing and presenting cases before the various Fitness to Practise Committees of the GDC. One of the main objectives of setting-up the team was to reduce the costs incurred by the GDC when instructing external legal providers to undertake prosecution work in Fitness to Practise cases.

About you:

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move into a management role. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to manage a team of Paralegals, either through previous supervisory or management experience, or other stakeholder management. The role would be suitable for someone with previous regulation experience, preferably within the healthcare sector. You will be customer focussed and provide a high quality service to a variety of stakeholders such as our In-house Lawyers and members of the public.

Benefits:

To reward you for your hard work and commitment, we offer an attractive benefits package that includes a generous pension scheme, flexi-time and 25 days' annual leave (plus bank holidays).

The GDC is committed to equality and diversity. We encourage and support the recruitment, retention and career development of people from as wide a range as possible of ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds.

How to apply:

You can view our full role profile, and complete an online application form, at our website via the button below.

Closing date: 23:59 hours on Sunday 08 October. Successful candidates will be notified by Wednesday 11 October and invited to interviews taking place on Monday 16 October.
