Contract: Permanent

Our children and young people need highly skilled and committed people who are able to build appropriate relationships and support them on their journey to a positive future.

We are looking to appoint 2 full time Residential Support Workers at Aldine House Secure Children's Home. As a Residential Support Worker (RSW) you will provide the highest standards of care to our young people. We are licensed to provide care, education and support to eight children and young people aged between 10 and 18. As a specialist service, we provide a critical first-line child protection and public protection service.

We work with young people who have been placed in secure accommodation either because they are deemed to be too vulnerable to be placed in an open residential placement, they have been sentenced by the courts or they have been placed with us on remand. Each young person presents a distinct and significant challenge to our staff who work together to build relationships and help young people make progress. All of our staff are required to show high levels of resilience and resourcefulness in order to work successfully with our young people.

RSWs provide positive and assertive parenting that establishes clear boundaries, but is entirely child-centred. Though you do not need to be a parent you will have significant experience in residential childcare, youth justice, special education or a similar field. This will enable you to work with individuals and small groups of young people to ensure their day-today wellbeing, deliver leisure activities, group work and 1:1 key work sessions.

If successful, you will work according to a rota pattern that includes regular weekend working and Bank Holidays. You will be paid at an enhanced rate for 'unsociable hours'. You will also be required, and supported, to complete the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare within 18 months unless you already hold this or an equivalent qualification.

As an officer of Sheffield City Council you will adhere to and exceed the standards outlined in the Code of Conduct. Sheffield City Council requires that new staff in our service undergo an enhanced DBS check along with other safeguarding checks. This forms part of a rigorous and demanding recruitment process. We set very high standards because we invest heavily in our employees, with respect to money and time. As an RSW at Aldine House, you will receive continuous training and support to enable you to become an outstanding practitioner. This includes monthly supervisions with your line manager as well as monthly Probationary Review Meetings throughout your first year in the role.

We offer huge challenges and rewards: are you ready to test yourself?

Applicants must be over 21 years of age.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

We are committed to fairness and social justice and welcome applications from everyone. We value our diverse workforce and aim to work together to make the most of our differences. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
