Forming part of PwC's UK Human Capital (HC) Services group, the Student Recruitment team is responsible for implementing and delivering the firm's student recruitment strategy to identify, attract, select and engage the best possible talent from UK Universities and schools.

We have an exciting opportunity in our Midlands Student Recruitment team for a Recruitment Manager (or an experienced Senior Recruitment Officer looking to step up to Manager). Based in our Birmingham office, the Midlands Student Recruitment Manager leads a team of 4 to deliver an annual headcount of over 250 students across all Lines of Service. The Midlands practice has around 1700 employees and covers Birmingham, East Midlands and Milton Keynes offices.

Reporting into the Student Recruitment Senior Management team, the Midlands Manager is responsible for driving the student hire agenda in the region. Partnering with key senior stakeholders, you will have an in depth understanding of local business needs and cultures within each department. You will provide expert advice to your clients on how your team will deliver their requirements and will use your networks within the wider Student Recruitment team to leverage off the expertise in our specialist teams.

As Manager, you will oversee the operations process for all student hires into the Midlands practice - partnering with our HC Customer Services team to ensure pipelines are managed efficiently and candidates have a positive experience during our recruitment process.

The Student Recruitment Manager is responsible for the design and execution of an appropriate attraction strategy that reflects key regional and national strategic goals. You will work with colleagues in the wider recruitment team to ensure campus plans are in place to deliver required headcounts and will drive interventions where necessary to target key areas. You will own relationships with key universities and schools to deliver this and will invest time on campus to directly source the best talent in the market.

The role will also be responsible for contributing to, and in some cases leading, national student recruitment projects and for contributing to the continued development of an iconic student recruitment function.

About the role
Operations:
  • Build and sustain relationships within the Midlands practice, Operations, Resourcing and Human Capital (HC) leadership to understand and inform annual student recruitment needs.
  • Ensure the Midlands business recruitment needs are appropriately reflected in marketing collateral including definition and agreement of selling messages.
  • Ensure student recruitment targets are agreed and delivered against.
  • Regular management reporting to your key stakeholders on progress against targets and agreement and coordination of corrective marketing where appropriate.
  • Ensure resources are committed appropriately to the Student Recruitment effort from your regional business units (e.g. interviewers, campus and event business ambassadors, etc).
  • Resolve complex problems and escalate as appropriate, whilst mitigating legal, financial and reputational risk.
  • Support on delivery of elements of the recruitment process, such as assessment day hosting, interview feedback etc.
  • Securing and maintaining buy-in and commitment from key stakeholders in the Midlands business to new and existing student recruitment initiatives.
  • Work in partnership with internal teams to ensure a seamless recruitment and on-boarding experience for our candidates.
  • Contributing to / managing internal related projects to time and budget.
  • Producing accurate and high quality reports on our recruitment statistics, including fill rates and diversity of our hires.
  • Attraction:
  • Design and deliver the attraction strategy at key Midlands universities and schools, in line with firm wide and regional strategic goals.
  • Coordinate, host and resource a wide variety of campus and schools based events - such as employability skills sessions, presentation evenings, brand events and office insight days.
  • Own the relationship with university careers services, student clubs & societies and local schools - advising on firm specific and market-wide developments.
  • Drive necessary interventions on campus to support the recruitment of the required headcount both locally and nationally.
  • Complete annual measuring success reviews of campus strategy to understand ROI and inform future planning.
  • Manage the Midlands regional campus budget.
  • Team:
  • Manage a team of 4 direct reports - as a line manager and a people manager - responsible for supporting them with their performance objectives and personal development goals.
  • Act as a role model to both your team and the wider student recruitment team - in the Midlands and nationally.
  • Ensure your team are resourced and well positioned to deliver on their roles and responsibilities.
  • Requirements
  • Detailed understanding of student recruitment and the student recruitment market and an ability to demonstrate that your specialist knowledge is kept up to date.
  • Experience of graduate and/or school leaver recruitment as a Manager or Senior Recruitment Officer, with a good knowledge of the higher education marketplace, ideally having gained experience within the professional services sector.
  • Experience in leading student recruitment programmes.
  • Experience in managing teams and budgets.
  • Understanding of selection tools and techniques (including psychometric testing).
  • Awareness and understanding of the end to end recruitment process, including the implication of key employment legislation and pre-employment vetting, application handling and regulatory issues.
  • Proactive and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cohesively in a team.
  • Ability to think creatively on candidate attraction techniques and have an enthusiasm for direct sourcing on campus.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the proven ability to quickly build effective personal networks with clients and peers.
  • Experience of operating in a high volume HC Services environment.
  • Strong negotiator, with the ability to influence both externally and internally.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Calm under pressure, you will be resilient and solutions driven, with a proven ability to identify and resolve key issues while managing risk.
