Role:

  • To provide advanced technical support to applications knowledge and expertise in the use of separations science technologies for biopolymer and synthetic polymer applications.
  • To provide advanced technical input to the sales process in direct and indirect sales channels.
  • To provide technical support and training to our users, subsidiaries, agents and distributors for the use of separations products for the characterisation of biopolymer and synthetic polymers.
  • To provide input for the development of hardware and software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work with customers to develop applications for the characterization of biopolymers and synthetic polymers eluted from a separation system
  • To train customers in the use of the detector system and help with data interpretation. These customers will be sales, service and support within the company, as well as end-users
  • To provide helpdesk and distributor support for separations applications, verbally and by the development of technical notes and multi-media presentations
  • To assist the solving of technical problems and issues with customers and products
  • To provide support for the flow-mode accessory for systems, specifically in the installation, operation and data interpretation for customers and internal staff, both in person, by phone, e-mail and video conferencing
  • To work with NPI to provide input for the development of detectors for separation systems, and provide support for system alpha and beta testing
  • Generate product support material (application notes, technical notes, Brainsharks, WebEx, articles, FAQs and material for use on the website) to improve the communication to the market and the wider organization in support of Nanometrics products' business objectives
  • To work closely with the relevant product managers and territory sales managers and key account personnel to ensure they are aware of latest applications and product/software capabilities
  • To prepare and give lectures, publish scientific papers and present seminars at an advanced level to our subsidiaries, agents, distributors, direct sales team and the end-users.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • A degree in chemistry or biochemistry and a PhD in a relevant field is required.
  • Must have gained experience of characterization of polymers and biopolymers using size exclusion chromatography.
  • Ideally will have experience of using of using advanced light scattering detectors in combination with size exclusion.
  • A minimum of 2 years' practical experience in industry or as a post doctorate would be advantageous.
  • Must have an excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • A second European language would be advantageous.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate a broad understanding of modern chromatographic techniques.
  • A proven ability at problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, coupled with an ability to instil confidence in the receiver.
  • Good listening skills and the ability to translate what a customer says into what he needs.
  • A requirement to be computer literate with Microsoft Office software suite and an appreciation of Information Technology for instrument based applications.
