Maintaining the rail network is a huge job. Our Maintenance Engineering team is up to the challenge. Across everything from signalling and track to electrification, they keep the network and its assets working safely and reliably. Brief Description

Directing a team of Senior Technical Officers, you'll take the lead on everything from faulting to installation. Focusing on data analysis and quality control, you'll ensure excellence and compliance.

TRACK
Our track technical teams provide support to our Delivery Unit Track Engineers surveying track quality and designing schemes to ensure a smoother journey as well as technical record keeping and the calibration of technical equipment.

About the role (External)

You'll provide important technical support and guidance to the Maintenance Engineering team. It's a varied and vital role, with responsibility for directing the work of our Senior Technical Officers. You'll be the first port of call for all kinds of issues, from installations to faulting. Prioritising work as it arises, and agreeing work plans, you'll manage the preparation of work, resource specifications and requisitions for materials. What's more, you'll personally undertake and supervise a range of technical tasks, as well as survey and design work.

You'll carry out technical inspections and investigations, with a strong focus on data analysis and quality control. You'll install, test and commission equipment. And you'll manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment. Along the way, you'll ensure works are fully compliant with our exacting standards, and keep a range of key records, systems and databases up to date.

Essential Criteria
• Experience of carrying out technical support activities, using diverse techniques
• Working knowledge spanning maintenance processes, systems and standards
• Knowledge of design requirements, processes and techniques
• Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team
• Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing
• Able to coach, influence and develop others

Desirable Criteria
• Hold or be working towards and NVQ level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) in an engineering/leadership subject
• Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need

This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.
