About Strategy and Service Performance

We are here to ensure we are delivering on our strategic ambitions and develop the performance framework through which GTIS will engage with business and technology stakeholders. The Strategy & Service Performance team will also lead on operationalising our SRP requirements.

Overall purpose of role:

The way in which we use data is changing, the way that we make decisions, more often relies upon the data to help inform the 'what we need to do'. As Lead Data Scientist will:

• You will have the autonomy to lead the identification of business problems, where data can offer business value (Faster, simpler, cost effective)

• Seek out optimisation opportunities and develops insights through data that create business benefit

• Develops models using machine learning techniques, such as; Decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, clustering, representation learning and learning classifier systems.

• Presents results to business stakeholders, obtaining support for the delivery of trials that determine the long term benefit of implementing predictive and prescriptive models as a BAU business process

Key Accountabilities and Skills required:

Apply technical and analytical expertise to exploring and examining data with the goal of discovering patterns and previously hidden insights, which in turn can provide a competitive advantage or address a pressing business problem. Use and expertise in R, Python, to develop predictive and prescriptive models, to then analyze and implement analysis into infrastructure, business tools and workflow processes, turn data into something that drives action within the business. Leverage knowledge of mathematical and statistical concepts, to bridge the gap between technologists and mathematicians, ensuring software solutions meet business goals.

Key specific accountabilities.

o You will be expected to identify and build advanced statistical models, using machine learning techniques that generate insights to drive business decisions and solve business problems.

o You will support the Head of data science, in identifying new growth opportunities by analysing patterns in vast collections of existing & new data sources, generate insight that shapes and informs key strategic and business decisions and inspire stakeholders with algorithmic solutions of complex business problems.

o Lead the data delivery roadmap for the data science team, ensuring that we are always 1 step ahead of how we use data

o Become an expert in the data we hold and the identify new data sources that can offer greater value in the creation of models, that influence decisions and deliver processes

Stakeholder management and leadership.

As a lead data scientist you will be expected to work with the head of data scientist to lead stakeholders through how data science can unlock value in the business, identify challenges alongside the business and explore solution options by using machine learning techniques. Deputise for the head of data science in leadership meetings and present to functional Directors

Decision making and problem solving.

As a lead data scientist you will be expected to instigate and manage large scale projects that enable the head of data science to drive a data decision based agenda to senior business stakeholders, you will also be required to use your expertise to drive the data science agenda alongside the head of data science into technology, making informed decisions about the best way to problem solve and enable data to inform decisions

Risk and Control:

All Barclays colleagues have to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Your Skills and Qualifications will include

o Highly experienced with Hadoop and AWS environment

o Hands-on experience coding in Java, Scala, Python, R, SQL or other advanced programming languages is required for this role

o Big data modeling work experience with Hadoop, Spark and Zeppelin or Jupyter is required

o Experience with Cloudera suite (Hue, Oozie,...) is a plus

o Strong experience on applied statistics and data mining techniques (linear regression, logistic regression, text mining, classification, multivariate analysis, decision tree, random forest, K-means, deep neural networks, Bayesian models, ...)

o Proficient with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, HBase, Cassandra, ...

o Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills is a must

o Strong experience with rapid prototyping, Agile/SCRUM is needed

o Highly analytical mindset with problem solving attitude

o Good presentation skills with ability to explain sophisticated solution in layman terms

o Dynamic, driven and energetic team player being able to work under pressure and tight deadlines
