BS Social Care are currently recruiting for a Hostel Worker to work for local reputable charity which has been established since 1991.

This organisation is a local charity that provide direct access emergency accommodation in 16 single rooms for homeless people over 18 with a local connection to the Harrogate District. This is the only direct access hostel in the Harrogate District and works closely with other agencies, particularly Probation, the Police and drug & alcohol services.

Hostel

The hostel was established in 1991 due to the urgent need for emergency accommodation for people who are not classed as priority need. The hostel provides accommondation for up to 16 people over the age of 18 who are homeless and have a local connection to the Harrogate district, and is the only direct access homeless hostel in Harrogate and the surrounding area. Our rooms are allocated to those who have been in the NSNO shelter and who need further support in finding permanent and stable accomodation. My client work with other specialist agencies to provide appropriate support to residents and each resident is allocated a Support Worker.

The Job

You will be required to work on a rolling rota covering shifts between 7am-5pm and 2pm-midnight including weekends and bank holidays. This is a full time post working four shifts on, four shifts off. The main purpose of the job is to contribute to the smooth and safe running of the hostel environment during the day and evenings, providing assistance to residents and support workers as required and carrying out administrative tasks and health and safety duties as well as activities with residents.

About you

My client wants the postholder to demonstrate the following competences to a high level and want to use these to the full in their work. This is more important than having a great deal of direct experience of the job content.

  • Personal affectiveness and self development
  • Proactivity and initative
  • Problem solving and decision-making
  • Self development
  • Communication
  • Managing self and relationships with others
  • Team working and co-operation
  • Costumer and client focus and managing diversity
  • Building effectional external relationship
  • Using IT and maintaining and using systems

Although experience in a hostel setting is desirable, but essentially we don't need direct experience, we'll be looking for transferable skills but would expect some experience of dealing with 'customers' in a busy environment.

The starting salary for the post is £16,229 per annum. Any additional shifts worked will be paid as overtime and there is an on-call allowance payable for on-call duties undertaken.

They offer an annual holiday entitlement of 20 days plus bank holiday entitlement, a contributory staff pension scheme and a staff health care benefit scheme.

Apply now to avoid disappointment! If you have any questions, please call Kirsty May on 0113 2154312!
