Trainee Underwriter

GBP16,500 - GBP17,825 plus excellent benefits

A permanent role available on a full-time basis; an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Underwriter to join our highly profitable and expanding Small Business Commercial Insurance Team, based in Maidstone, where our aim is to build and maintain strong broker relationships. You might be new to the insurance industry or have some previous experience, but either way, as a key member of the team you will be working closely with our UK broker network and other Allianz branches in a fast-paced telephony environment, aimed at delivering superior customer service and underwriting. You will play a key role in ensuring that Allianz achieves its ambition to be the market's number one leading Commercial Insurer.

If you are successful in securing the role, you will first learn to underwrite Allianz products and develop your trading and soft skills over the course of a 8 week training programme. After this time, your development will then continue at your own pace with further specialist training that will help you to progress; giving you the authority to handle more complex work and make wider trading decisions. If you choose to, you may attend our CII accredited Underwriting Academy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing relationships with team-assigned brokers from our vast, regionally split broker network
  • Assessment of an insurance proposal, collating and analysis of background information including (where appropriate) specialist reports, in order to effectively asses the risk proposed
  • Calculation of potential risk and confirmation of premium payable to the broker
  • Delivering new business targets or retaining our existing business-contributing to weekly, monthly and yearly performance of the Small Business Team
  • Underwriting Allianz insurance products and developing your trading and soft skills
  • Specifying and/or clarifying bespoke policy conditions with brokers
  • Respond to broker feedback by feeding back to your Team Leader on a regular basis

What we are looking for:

  • 2 A levels and GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Good numerical, written and verbal communication (particularly telephony) skills are essential
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Target driven and ability to multi-task at pace. Must have the capacity and drive to work hard using your own initiative and be achievement orientated. Previous experience of working within the financial services industry is desirable but we will consider candidates with relevant transferable experience.

What we offer you in return:

  • Competitive salary, which is reviewed annually
  • Annual Bonus related to individual and company performance
  • A generous pension plan
  • Competitive holiday allowance that increases with length of service, with the option of buying and selling up to 5 days holiday per year
  • Share purchase plan
  • Flexible benefits plan, giving the option to tailor benefits (such as dental insurance and private medical care) to suit individual needs
  • Excellent training and development opportunities including our Award winning Underwriting Academy which is CII accredited.
