LOCATION: Deddington, Oxfordshire

JOB TITLE: Practice Nurse

SALARY & BENEFITS: To be confirmed - Salary will be dependent on skills and experience.

WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday between 8.00am - 6.30pm (hours will vary each day on
a fixed schedule) 30 hours per week (with the occasional requirement to work until
8.00pm)

THE COMPANY: Our client is a GP surgery with 10,000 patients with 4 partners and 2 salaried GPs within the Practice. The surgery is based in Deddington, Oxfordshire.

THE ROLE: Our client has an opportunity for a Practice Nurse to join our enthusiastic and friendly team. We are looking for someone who will work as part of the Nursing Services Team providing nursing care to Practice patients. We are specifically looking to recruit a Practice Nurse with chronic disease management experience, preferably asthma and COPD.

Key Responsibilities of the Practice Nurse to include:-

Assist and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff
and GPs
Respiratory disease management (COPD and asthma)
Carry out cervical screening procedures
Wound care/ulcer care/Doppler/compression dressings
Travel health and immunisations
Removal of sutures
ECGs
Venepuncture
Hypertension chronic disease management
Ear syringing
Routine immunisations/childhood immunisations
Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another
clinician
Requesting pathology test, for example, urine culture, swabs
Carry out pill checks and contraceptive injections
Contact patients by email and telephone to offer advice and support
Competent in the use of the Emis Web clinical IT system and all other IT systems used as part of the Practice Nurse role.
Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms, including stocking and rotating items as required
Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by nurses
Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
Attend and participate in Practice meetings
On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
Assist in the delivering of the seasonal flu campaign
Maintain a sound knowledge of the GMS contract for chronic disease management
Have a sound knowledge of the Practice's infection control policy

THE CANDIDATE: The successful Practice Nurse will be responsible for people with a range of needs so being highly organised, flexible and able to prioritise effectively is vital. They must be observant, able to assess patients and take responsibility for determining the best course of action. On the daily basis they will need to use a broad range of skills, including listening and communication, problem solving, good judgement and offering advice. A Practice Nurse will need to demonstrate critical thinking, decision making and be able to manage patients.

Key experience essential for the role of Practice Nurse based in Deddington:

MUST be a Registered Nurse with a valid PIN
Will live within a commutable distance of Deddington, Oxfordshire
Experience with chronic disease management, asthma and COPD is desirable but not essential.
