Trainee CNC Programmer Job Description

My client is a small, high quality sub-contract precision engineering company based in Rushden. The company provides specialist machining services to the F1 Motorsport Industry.

My client manufactures complex 3D machined components in small batch quantities of between 1 off and 20 off dependent on customer requirements. A variety of materials are used including various grades of aluminium alloys, high performance plastics, CFRP and rigid foams. Parts are programmed using solid model CAD data with the machine code being output directly to CNC machining centres.

Department: Programming

Hours of Work: Minimum 40 hours per week between the hours of

8.30am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday

Hours will be increased in busier periods as work schedules require. This will be paid at an overtime rate of 1.5 times the hourly rate.

Basic Job Description:

Office based, working on a PC with specialist machine programming software to create machining strategy programs. These programs are used for the control of automated manufacturing machines in order to produce parts to the customer defined size and shape specification.

Responsibilities:

Programming with Mastercam X5 software using CAD model data. Machining strategy programs devised will be utilised to generate a machine readable code for the computer controlled manufacturing machines.

Read, understand and be able to work from drawings. Consulting with workshop staff and quality assurance.

Skills & Attributes Required:

My Client are seeking a confident, fast learner to join a growing engineering company to work along side more experienced engineering staff.

Previous experience of quality requirements and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and tolerance specifications is advantageous although not essential. The successful candidate will have good computer skills together with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Applicants must have a good level of concentration, be focused and be able to work as part of a team efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines.
