Position: Technical Project Manager
Location: Talgarth, Brecon Beacons National Park
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 + Overtime

If you have strong IT and data management skills and a background in conservation, land management, life sciences or similar, then this might be the rare opportunity you have been looking for to combine your interests.

The Company:
Our client is a well-established and respected software consultancy with an impressive portfolio of information management applications used in the environmental and conservation sectors.

In the last few months alone they have been working on dozens of interesting projects for clients including Natural England, the RNLI, the National Trust, Central Government, English Heritage, The Ramblers, many local authorities, Wildlife Trusts and the Church of England. In fact, most of the major UK conservation and land management organisations are regular clients and they also have a number of important conservation clients overseas, particularly in N. Europe.

The Technical Project Manager Role:
We are looking for a Technical Project Manager – someone capable of whole lifecycle project management that knows how to bring software development projects in on time and to the satisfaction of all involved.

This is a full time and permanent position. It is likely that the position will be based at their head office in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales, although partial remote working is supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects, each lasting from several weeks to several months
  • Be responsible for all stages of the IT project management cycle from tender to post-implementation support activities
  • Work closely with colleagues and clients at all levels and know when to (and when not to), escalate matters to directors
  • Successfully manage the relationship with the client and stakeholders
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Meet client expectations whilst maintaining a strong business focus

Skills & Experience Required:
Essential;

  • Proven working experience in project management in the information technology sector
  • A solid technical background with understanding of software development and web technologies
  • Strong organisational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • A very good educational background
  • The maturity to bring a calm and confident presence to projects

Desirable;

  • Have experience using project management tools - ideally Jira and/or GitHub
  • Be familiar managing projects using ‘Agile’ principles
  • Graduate qualifications in an environmental or computing discipline

Remuneration:
You can expect a salary of £35,000 - £40,000 (dependent on skills and experience). They don’t expect you to work ‘whatever hours are needed’ either - they pay for overtime.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a talented and supportive group of developers and product managers on an apparently never ending stream of projects - each one presenting its own set of unique and interesting challenges.
