The Role

We are looking for an Internal Communications Manager to join the Marketing & Communications team at Baker McKenzie.

This is a great opportunity to drive innovation in strategic internal communications for this award winning firm.

In this role the successful candidate will be working closely with the Marketing and Communications team, the wider Marketing & Business Development department, European and Global marketing colleagues, the Management Committee and a number of Partners across the Firm.

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the development and implementation of internal communications and marketing objectives by communicating our strategic focus and increasing engagement and cross-selling within the Firm.

Responsibilities will include leading all London office internal communications activities and project management of/responsibility for certain marketing initiatives.

Using creative communication techniques the job holder will drive, develop and implement an internal communications strategy across all stakeholders that fits into the business strategy and represents the brand values of the Firm.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking the lead on communicating business news to the London office through:
  • Supporting senior management on all strategic internal communications requirements, including responsibility for London all staff business briefings (typically 1-2 per year). This involves setting the date, leading planning meetings, working with Management to create content, communication about the event to all staff, delivery of the event on the day, and formally requesting and analysing feedback
  • Helping department managers communicate strategy and cascade important messages
  • Proactively identifying and drafting messages to be disseminated office-wide, (including new policies, significant staff departures and arrivals, departmental changes and good news announcements from the Managing Partner)
  • Editorial responsibility for the content of central internal communications channels, from concept through to delivery, including generating story ideas, running editorial meetings, managing external service providers (if applicable), organising the content and photo shoots, and editing the final output
  • Development and maintenance of Marketing & Business Development pages of the London office intranet (BakerWorld)
  • Generating content for and maintaining the internal News Ticker
  • Providing internal communications expertise to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Board
  • Bringing innovation to the way we structure and disseminate internal communications
  • Responsibility for other internal communications projects and events on an ad-hoc basis as they arise (including for example the London office Christmas e-card)
  • Management of London office Alumni programme
  • Branding - Assisting the Head of Marketing in all aspects of promoting and protecting our brand idea, Fluency, including the presentation of the annual London Fluency awards, preparing submissions for the European and Global Fluency awards, and other related projects


The Team

The Marketing and Business Development team plays a key role in driving client relationships, revenue, profitability and brand within Baker McKenzie. It is a very well respected team that is positioned at the heart of Baker McKenzie's business.


Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Significant demonstrable experience in internal communications / marketing communications roles
  • Understanding of the corporate work environment, preferably with experience in professional services
  • Experience of delivering internal communications products (i.e. internal magazine, intranet, etc.) from concept through to delivery
  • Ability to make contacts throughout the organisation and to keep an ear to the ground to ensure well-informed communications. A natural curiosity for what is going on in the organisation will be extremely beneficial in this role
  • Should exhibit the right amount of confidence and gravitas to be able to lead meetings with senior management
  • Good understanding and experience of all areas of the professional services marketing mix, including business development, proposals, marketing communications, PR and practice development
