This is an exciting opportunity for a highly capable, professional Electrical design engineer, with extensive experience and technical knowledge of designing electrical installations to join our very busy team.
You will lead, manage and provide mentor support to a small team of electrical design engineers within the Design and Construction Service, as well as acting as the lead electrical technical reference for the authority
The service provides the county council and other public sector clients with full design, specification and project management services through all the RIBA stages of building projects and is typically managing an annual programme of work in excess of £50million.
You will take responsibility for setting the technical quality and managing the delivery of the team's work to meet the time and budgetary requirements of the programmes and projects in a cost effective manner. The Service works in a commercial environment contributing a financial return to the county council. The team's work includes advising client representatives, design colleagues, and premise managers, undertaking surveys, feasibilities, CDM risk assessment, design, calculations, costing, design coordination and JCT contract administration using established QA procedures and project management software.
The workload is wide ranging and diverse encompassing a range of schools, offices, sports facilities, care homes, commercial premises, libraries and museums. Engineers are responsible for their own projects either working with Architects, Surveyors and Mechanical Engineers as part of a multidisciplinary project team on new and existing buildings, or on individual electrical engineering projects such as rewiring, transformer installation, distribution systems, HV connections, internal and external lighting, and security systems.
Good communication skills are essential to liaise with clients, end users, colleagues, consultants, contractors and councillors. Together with the Mechanical, Building Services and Architectural managers, you will report to the Building Design Manager and the Head of the Design and Construction Service.
We require a professional qualification in electrical engineering such as CEng, or IEng with substantial vocational experience in the profession of at least 10 years and full membership of CIBSE or equivalent.
Candidates must be experienced in the use of CAD and calculation software such as AutoCAD, Dialux/Relux or Hevacomp/Amtech.
