We are looking for Dementia Adviser Support Volunteers to assist in an exciting new initiative for people affected by dementia in Plymouth.
How does this role make a difference?

Dementia adviser volunteers provide a key role in supporting the dementia advisers to provide an effective information and signposting service, working with people who need additional support to access information or services they have been signposted to.

What will you be doing?

Memory Matters SW are in the process of establishing a new caf?? in Plymouth City Centre. Above this caf?? will be a dedicated area for people affected by dementia or worried about their memory, or their families to come along for help and advice.

We are looking for volunteers to assist when people come in looking for that help and advice.

Meet people to support them in accessing and understanding information.

Meet people to support them in accessing services to which they have been signposted.

Volunteers are good at adapting to local need. So this role description highlights the kind of activity you may be involved with. Any local variations will be discussed separately as part of the recruitment process.

Will the role be suitable for you?

No special qualifications or experience needed. The role may be ideal for you if you:

- Are able to communicate clearly
- Are a good listener, able to identify people's needs and respond according to their preferences
- Have empathy
- Have an understanding or experience of dementia, or want to learn
- Have an understanding of the health and social care environment, or are willing to learn
- Are able to maintain clear record keeping

How will you be supported in this role?

You will receive support from volunteer support staff and your dementia adviser. You will also receive one-to-one and group support from other dementia adviser volunteers.

How much time will you need to give?

This role is flexible. You need to be able to commit to a minimum of half a day per week and to maintain continuity over at least a year.

You will receive relevant induction for the role
You will benefit from ongoing training and other development opportunities
You will be provided with one-to-one and/or group based support
You will be reimbursed your agreed out-of-pocket expenses, in accordance with Society policy.
