Worksite: Citywide
Contract: Permanent
Our vision in Sheffield is to strengthen families, so that all children, young people and families have the opportunity to live safe, happy and healthy lives. Our ambition is to support all children and young people to enjoy their childhood and reach their full potential. Our goal is to consistently place the child at the centre of our social work practice and to design and provide services that reflect the child's voice and are appropriate to their level of unmet need.
To make sure that we deliver the best possible outcomes for children, we want to ensure that we recruit and retain the best possible social workers. In return, we will make sure that they are rewarded.
Our social workers are located in small teams of six across the city, managed and supported by a range of highly trained social work professionals, with newly qualified social workers having dedicated 1:1 social work consultant support to ensure they gain their fitness to practice certificate. Caseloads are maintained at a reasonable level and all social workers receive high quality reflective supervision from their senior fieldwork manager.
Social work is a leadership profession in which you'll need to inspire, persuade and bring out the best in diverse groups of people. To help our social workers develop those skills they will benefit from our bespoke CPD and leadership development programmes with additional masterclasses which have been carefully designed with our partner Russell Group University to support them to work with purpose in a range of challenging settings to bring about change. We have clear social work and management training and career pathways. Each team is supported by note takers and Contact and Liaison Officers who will provide a consistent contact point for families, carers and professionals allowing social workers to concentrate on more direct work out in the community. We are a learning organisation and we constantly support student social workers whilst they are on statutory placement.
We are looking to increase our numbers of experienced social workers in statutory fieldwork services located in small teams across the city of Sheffield. We encourage applications from experienced qualified and registered social workers who want to fast track their careers either into specialist practice, management or practice education. If you are thinking about returning to social work after a career break then we will support you to regain your HCPC registration.
As a social worker you will be expected to undertake initial and core assessments formulating child protection plans under the Children Act 1989 and subsequent amendments, initiate court proceedings and undertake all associated quality report writing, undertake duty and manage a reasonable caseload.
In addition, we offer a range of benefits including generous leave entitlement, flexible working, a local government pension scheme, salary sacrifice and employee discount benefits.
Sheffield offers an unrivalled quality of life, combining the best of city living with the beauty and tranquillity of the Peak District National Park. On offer are all the benefits of living in the 4th largest city; shopping, entertainment, theatres, sport, good schools, affordable housing and excellent transport links.
