Do you have paid experience working with children and young people? Are you looking for casual hours on a weekly basis? Do you have immediate availability to take up some shifts? Then keep reading, as we might be the right casual employer for you.

The Role

Located in Tadcaster, we require support workers with experience working with younger people to cover a number of shifts at a 4 bedded residential children's home. The young people based at this home have various support needs, some of which are of a sensitive or challenging nature, such as CSE. As a support worker, you must feel confident when handling challenging behaviour and have understanding of the types of issues faced by young people in care.

Your day to day duties as a support worker are varied and will involve work both inside the home and out in the community. Home duties include getting stuck in to the routine tasks around the home such as cooking group meals and general cleaning duties. Your ultimate goal is to motivate and care for the young people at the home and ensure their quality of life is the best it could be. This may be easier said than done, so experience of building trust and rapport with hard to reach clients is vital to ensure success in your role.

Shift Times

Shifts at this service will typically start at 8.00am and finish at 11pm the same day however some shifts will require the addition of a sleep in, so flexibility is appreciated. Sleep ins will start at 11pm and finish at 7am, you will then work a short part of the morning 7.00am - 8.30am.

We are usually given our shift requirements by the client one week prior, so you will be given advance notice and can take as many shifts as you like. We are experiencing a high volume need at present so candidates with good availability will be given preference upon shortlisting.

Pay Rate

The pay rate for this service ranges from £8.00 per hour to £9.50 per hour dependent on your experience. You will be paid £60.00 per sleep in.

Our other temporary assignment pay rates differ, so please keep this in mind when registering.

What do I need to apply?

  • To be aged 21 or over
  • A full and clean driving license
  • Have at least 6 months paid experience in social care with a qualification or 12 months without
  • Good availability to take on shifts in the next couple of weeks
  • Experience working with children and young people
  • Ability to gain work references for the last five years

Are there permanent positions available?

Yes. Should the role be the right fit for you, permanent contracts can be offered. A permanent contract will usually consist of 40 hours per week with approximately 10 sleep ins per month. Your pay rate will be dependent on whether or not you have a Level 3 Children and Young People qualification.
