Job Introduction
Newsbeat is the flagship youth platform for BBC News, Radio 1 and 1Xtra. It is the most listened to news programme for 16 - 24 year olds across all of BBC News - reaching around 8 million people a week on air and between 6-8 million online. As well as producing programmes and bulletins it investigates issues affecting young people and delivers strong, original journalism on a regular basis.

Over the last couple of years Newsbeat has made major strides digitally with online stories on its site, social channels, YouTube Channel and building its presence on Radio 1's iPlayer channel with documentaries. Newsbeat is continuously increasing the reach of its stories online aimed at its target audience and we are now looking for an experienced digital journalist to help lead the digital proposition as the Newsbeat site gets ready to merge with BBC News online.

Role Responsibility
Specifically designed for a younger audience Newsbeat's online articles, videos and social content are part of BBC News' main priorities over the next few years. The successful applicant will take the lead in making sure that digital content remains editorially sound, as well as ensuring the look, feel, tone and personality of Newsbeat content continues to be distinct as it becomes part of the News online site.

The digital operation often reflects content on Newsbeat's radio output and elsewhere on Radio 1/1Xtra but it also delivers bespoke content for a digital-only audience. A key part of the job will also be to ensure Newsbeat's content remains sharable and continue to build on a strategy to ensure that content reaches as many people as possible via as many online platforms as possible.

Newsbeat content needs to have a clear focus on young people. Featuring the best of relatable current affairs, entertainment and news features told using exciting and engaging storytelling methods and explaining complicated stories for the audience in a simple, non-patronising way. Tonally, it feels vibrant, young. The successful candidate will not be afraid to try new ways of telling stories especially on social platforms.

The Ideal Candidate
You'll need considerable experience of leading digital and social media teams (reporters, presenters, researchers) to deliver imaginative output to deadline with considerable experience of launching and growing a new digital product. You must have experience of working with youth audiences and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of Radio 1 and 1xtra and their target audience including lifestyle and how they consume news. A proven track record in innovative and creative storytelling for a digital audience is essential, with impeccable editorial judgement.

Interviews will be held on Friday 13 October.
