As the Director of Engineering, you will be the Technology leader in this company's Brighton office and work with cross-functional teams as well as other engineering leaders to manage the teams (directly and matrixed), enable engineers to be productive, and provide support to cross-functional areas.

This is a hands-on role for a natural, decisive leader, someone who lives in the details, enjoys working on difficult technical problems and deals well with changing priorities. You will exposed to full technology stack, from Operations to UI. You would be responsible for and have a passion for employee engagement to ensure culture, strategy and business is communicated and adopted.

The main responsibilities for their Director of Engineering will include:

- Guide software development, maintenance and optimisation on and across multiple platforms working with a distributed team of software engineers
- Work on an Agile team and organisation, ensuring highest quality, customer success and excellence.
- Prioritise projects and allocate resources
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Account Management, QA, Product, and Project Management to ensure successful completion of engineering deliverables
- Mentor, challenge, guide, motivate and advocate for the team incorporate new and creative technical solutions to improve and scale products
- Foster a can-do and solution-oriented attitude in the team and in collaborators
- Provide cultural leadership to the Technology team at the Brighton office. Build, enhance and spread their culture through all levels of the organisation
- Promote the core values of Customer Centricity, Transparency, Collaboration, Accountability and Drive for Excellence
- Build and maintain; high performing, highly motivated and engaged teams

About you:

- At degree level, or equivalent, in a Computer Science or related discipline (preferred but not essential)
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience to include 4 in a managerial or team lead capacity
- Knowledge of Perl or other scripting language (preferred but not essential)
- Ability to communicate up and down the organisation
- Strong experience in building culture at rapidly growing organisations
- Comprehensive understanding of modern CMS tools and Java Development frameworks
- Have owned the development, build, testing and release process for business critical products and projects
- Experience with modern source control and development tools
- Experience in using metrics in making business and technical decisions
- Knowledge of object-oriented design and coding discipline
- Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms and relational databases
- You must be an excellent leader with an exceptional ability to explain complex concepts clearly while dealing with multiple teams, projects and priorities
- Maintains own skill set by keeping up to date with industry and development trends
- Able and willing to undertake occasional travel worldwide.
