Developing the key skills required to work within Steris Plc working as Site Operations Supervisor for the Reading site and undertaking specific project work or operational delivery for the site.

Key Responsibilities

Graduate Trainee Managers will be required to demonstrate strengths in all the indicators set out in the Synergy Health Competency Dictionary. More specifically, the graduate trainee will:

·Undertake specific projects for the business to identify process improvement or potential growth opportunities.

·Demonstrate commitment to continuous personal and professional development through active participation in graduate development events and by exploring placement and employment opportunities.

·Provide clear and concise reports summarising work done within projects and operative activities. To be delivered to the Line Manager following each project.

·Utilise reports to identify innovative solutions and ideas to improve processes and procedures.

·Meet deadlines and objectives set at the beginning of each project or placement.

·Work collaboratively with existing employees (managers and non-managers) utilising their experience or identify solutions to operative deliverables or project objectives.

·To proactively lead all staff putting forward suggestions for continuous improvement, innovation and corrective actions as appropriate and ensuring the implementation of all feasible suggestions.

·To create and maintain a training matrix for all operations and maintenance staff.

·To coach, support and guide all staff in accordance with the principles of Steris AST Performance Management policies and procedures, ensuring the successful operation of the system throughout the site, and to act as an induction mentor as required

·To provide leadership and clear direction when delivering a specific project or leading operative tasks that meets the business objectives and leadership values.

·To lead and actively promote participation in all Company communications initiatives including Team Briefing, employee forums, and staff meetings as required.

·To become the site One Team One Goal (OTOG) Ambassador and Lean Champion and actively organise and lead team building exercises and lean initiatives as directed by the OTOG and Lean organisers. Take ownership of the site SQDC board and associated P.I.T. meetings

·To become the site Health and Safety Chairman and assume site responsibility for all Health and Safety Policy issues ensuring that all activities comply with Health and Safety procedures and guidelines, ensuring that all designated staff are informed and trained appropriately.

·To improve the site appearance by way of implementing 5S+1, ensuring all standard work activities are completed on a daily basis.

·To become part of the scheduling team and become fluent with scheduling the Gamma plant to a very high standard that results in high levels of plant efficiency and utilisation whilst keeping down time and non-conformances to a minimum. An acute understanding of creating a balance of operational and customer requirements is essential.

·To participate in providing scheduling management cover 24 hours per day, 365 days per year through the operation of a 3 person call out rota as directed by the Plant Manager to ensure the customer and site both have clear expectations of one another.

·Represent the organisation both internally and externally, to develop and maintain an understanding and awareness of relevant initiatives and challenges facing Synergy.

·Build strong professional relationships within the organisation to improve cross-site understanding and partnership working across the group as the opportunity arises.

·Develop and build relations with external stakeholders to ensure strong professional working relationships.

·Provide support to operational area to ensure all day to day targets and KPIs are met and all deliverables achieved.

·To provide support to the business in the delivery of organisational objectives.

·To carry out any other duties commensurate with the role as directed by Synergy Management.


Person specification:-


·Minimum of 2:1 Degree or Equivalent

·A high degree of initiative, resourcefulness, flexibility and self-motivating approach to achieve both business objectives and personal success

·Conceptual and innovative thinking informing an analytical approach to complex problems and ability to identify practical options and solutions

·Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through oral and presentation skills as well as excellent writing skills and an aptitude for producing complex reports

·Potential to develop a successful career as a manager and leader

·The ability to acquire the requisite professional skills to succeed as a junior manager

·Good team working skills and the ability to work effectively with staff at different levels of the organisation

·Good planning, organisation and administrative skills, with the ability to meet deadlines

·Good IT skills


·Degree In Science, Business, Maths, Engineering, Business Economics

·Language skills would be an advantage – particularly Italian or German
