Police Enquiry Officer - Face to face Customer Service and Interaction within our main Police Stations - Have you got the transferrable skills to become part of our dedicated team?

The Role

A Police Enquiry Officer is there to provide a first point of contact from the Police for customers by providing an appropriate and efficient response plus service that supports the strategic aims and policing priorities of Surrey Police, whilst ensuring customer service excellence. No day is the same as you will deal with a range of enquiries, from people reporting a road traffic accident to a victim reporting a crime or incident and even processing a surrendered firearm. You need to have the ability to expect the unexpected and be forthcoming in the capability to deal with customers with varying needs from the diverse communities within Surrey in an approachable, caring and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities

Upon completion of a training induction programme, as a Police Enquiry Officer you will be expected to work independently to open and close the Police Counter at the published times and all of the duties that come with that such as completion of the electronic handover for your colleagues. You will be required to take ownership and deal with all enquires both internally and externally via various mediums such as in person, via email and over the telephone. Having been trained in various bespoke computer systems you will have the ability to use your risk assessing skills combined with policy and procedure and discretion to initiate the use of these systems to the best of your ability to provide a complete service.

Skills & Experience

You will need to evidence that you have the type of transferrable skills and experience we are looking for to apply for this role, such as excellent customer service standards and preferably familiarity of dealing with customers in a face to face environment. Good communication skills are essential in the role as you must be able to verbally express your understanding whilst remaining calm but competent, especially when dealing with complex enquiries. You will be required to understand and interpret information to form the content of electronic reports, therefore you must demonstrate your ability to problem solve and prioritise to make sound decisions based on the information presented to you. Finally you must be a team player with the right type of attitude to working with colleagues in a flexible, fair and harmonious manner, offering support when required. You must also have a full clean, manual driving license and have the ability to obtain the appropriate driving qualification to drive our Mobile Police Office van.

Diversity Statement

We are committed to creating a diverse police service, which reflects the community we serve. We value diversity and inclusion and want to attract the best people for the roles available, regardless of age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, disability, social status or religious beliefs.

Additional Information

Police Counters at our main Police Stations are open 7 days a week from 0800-2200hrs, with a rolling 7 week shift pattern, consisting of Early, Mid and Late shifts. You will be employed on a mobile contract, which means that you are required to travel to each Police Counter to cover duties when necessary, on occasions covering staff abstractions at sometimes short notice at either our main stations, or co-located counters.
