The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global charity for research, teaching and information on international development, based in Brighton. We are seeking to recruit a highly-motivated Research Officer to join the core 'Health and Nutrition' team. The successful candidate will support the evolving programme of research and policy engagement work being carried out by both IDS-based and overseas partner researchers under the 'Social, Economic and Environmental Drivers of Zoonoses in Tanzania (or SEEDZ)' Project. This BBSRC-funded research project examines changes in livestock-keeping practices and zoonotic disease risk and the Research Officer will work on one specific aspect of this research, namely zoonotic disease framings and policy processes. Working as a member of a supportive team, the postholder will have the ability and initiative to work autonomously, sometimes with minimal supervision, to play a key role in developing 'SEEDZ publications and events and to facilitate effective communication with researchers based in the partner countries as well as with the wider programme network. Applicants will have a social science Masters or PhD on Zoonotic Diseases and Policy Interventions along with excellent in-depth and theoretical knowledge on: Zoonosis, disease/'one health', Policy processes and livelihoods. The role requires excellent analytical and synthesis skills and demonstrable ability to undertake skilled, nuanced and careful academic writing. IDS' vision is a world in which poverty does not exist, social justice prevails and the voices of all people are heard in national and international institutions. We believe that generating, mobilising and sharing knowledge, through research, teaching and communications plays a key part in realising this vision.
