M&E Technician

Tees Barrage, Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees

About the role

Would you like to use your technical expertise to help run a truly impressive piece of waterway engineering? The Tees Barrage controls the flow of the river Tees, not only preventing flooding and the effects of tidal change but also transforming part of the river into a world-famous white-water course. As an M&E Technician, you’ll have the job of operating the barrage to maintain river levels upstream and control flows into the estuary. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining and repairing various mechanised structures, including the barrage, lock and bridges, as well as work boats and land-based plant.

We operate the barrage on a 24/7 basis, so you will need to be able to work various patterns as part of an annualised hours rota. This may well include some weekend working.

About you

We are looking for someone with good relevant technical knowledge, for example in welding, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical disciplines. You must be able to service and repair diesel and petrol engines, and should ideally have a C&G qualification in 17th edition wiring regulations. It is also crucial that you have a strong understanding of Health & Safety within site work.

About us

One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations. We believe living waterways transform places and enrich lives. Achieving this vision will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it.
