Job description

To work as a Senior Portfolio Monitoring Analyst, specialising in pre-trade compliance monitoring, within the Portfolio Monitoring team of Legal and General Investment Management’s Chief Risk Office.

Legal & General requires an experienced, fully-competent individual, to ensure that all funds are managed according to client, regulatory and internal risk management guidelines.  This individual will need to ensure that investigative work and department reporting is carried out accurately and delivered in a timely manner. 

The analyst will also be responsible for building expertise across the Portfolio Monitoring Team and for acting as the central point of contact for the associated pre-trade needs of the business. 

A person performing this role would, in time, be expected to be able to take full accountability for the provision of a full pre-trade monitoring service, incorporating the complete workflow of both coding and monitoring processes and ensuring that delivery and reporting is timely, accurate and of the highest quality.  

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities involve the following:

Implementation

  • implementing all client, regulatory and internal  guidelines for funds into the Portfolio Monitoring pre-trade system (Bloomberg AIM);
  • documenting coverage and highlighting gaps to the Portfolio Monitoring Team and Enterprise Trade Compliance (ETC) project (Charles River implementation);
  • working with both the ETC project and Bloomberg to close any functional gaps;
  • giving progress feedback to Head of Portfolio Monitoring and the project team;
  • meeting all defined project deadlines;

On-going 

  • timely daily review of all fund manager pre-trade overrides and accurate interpretation;
  • timely escalation and resolution of potential breaches and fund manager warnings;
  • timely and complete production and distribution of breach reports;
  • ensuring the Head of Portfolio Monitoring and the ETC Project Manager are kept informed of all progress and issues, relating to coding of Bloomberg AIM and Charles River;
  • on-going maintenance and improvement of the Portfolio Monitoring pre-trade processes, with a focus on standardisation and automation;
  • ensuring pre-trade procedures are in place to update with all futures changes;
  • ensuring on-going dialogue and feedback from all users on rules/coding suitability;
  • training, mentoring and supervising the Portfolio Monitoring Analysts as required;
  • carrying out any other task as may be deemed necessary by the Head of Portfolio Monitoring.

Documentation

  • documenting responsibilities and producing procedures;
  • question and challenge contradictory/inappropriate guideline proposals/amendments with IB/CRM’s etc;

Team Integration

  • forming and maintaining effective working relationships with Portfolio Monitoring team members and other Risk analysts;
  • maintaining an open and effective dialogue with Fund Managers in relation to monitoring issues and reporting;
  • forming a view as to the appropriateness of the data being captured and the quality of the supporting monitoring and reporting infrastructure;

Client service

  • thorough review and interpretation of guidelines into Bloomberg AIM;
  • sign off processes and procedures followed;
  • desk review meetings scheduled;
  • development of key stakeholder working relationships;
  • knowledge of client products and rationale behind investment;
  • thorough review and interpretation of guidelines into Charles River Compliance; and

Value Add/Other

  • to help produce team MI for distribution around the business.

Essential Qualifications

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications: 

  • educated to a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree level in a Finance or related subject.

Essential Skills & Experience

The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:

  • demonstrate suitable experience in a Senior Guideline Analyst role;
  • demonstrate experience of relevant trade compliance / market risk management experience;
  • in-depth working knowledge of coding of Bloomberg AIM systems;
  • in-depth working knowledge of coding of Charles River Compliance systems;
  • working knowledge of MIG21 Compliance systems;
  • working knowledge and experience across a range of markets and products (in particular Equity, Equity Derivatives, Fixed Income, Exchange Traded Futures, OTC Credit Default Swaps, Interest & Inflation Swaps and Repos);
  • development experience using VBA etc;
  • excellent interpersonal skills - including verbal and written communication skills;
  • strong communication skills – especially in relation to management, internal and external clients;
  • determined, self-motivated and resourceful to achieve objectives;
  • ability to absorb, interpret, apply and communicate information effectively;
  • problem solving ability;
  • organised and structured approach;
  • excellent problem solving skills;
  • able to manage own workload and deal with tight deadlines; and
  • highly numerate with good attention to detail.
