Become a key part of the Communications Team at the Down's Syndrome Association and help support people with Down's syndrome to live full and rewarding lives. Working in our beautiful Devon offices you will work with colleagues, supporters and partners across the country to tell stories, share important information and raise awareness.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Planning, developing & producing quality content that can be used in multiple ways for multiple channels, predominantly for the website and social media channels.
  • Making sure that our key messages are presented in an engaging way while also sticking to timescales, budgets and our brand and ‘voice'.
  • Monitoring the reputation of the charity across digital and traditional channels and working with the Communications Manager to protect and grow it.

Social Media & Digital

  • Day-to-day management of the DSA's social media activity on existing & emerging platforms
  • Monitoring and reporting wider digital activity relevant to the DSA
  • Working with the Communications Manager to create & co-ordinate on going campaigns
  • Create collateral to support campaigns adhering to DSA brand guidelines
  • Working with all DSA teams, deliver digital output including social media, newsletter, blogs and web updates etc.
  • Co-ordinate third party submissions as appropriate including making sure that we have all the relevant permissions
  • Manage social media input from external sources (eg comments/enquiries)
  • Produce regular digital activity reports and work with Communications Manager to create output plans accordingly
  • Update and maintain website content as needed
  • Co-ordinate digital photo library (including permissions)​

Communications

  • Capture, edit and collate case studies across all DSA activity
  • Work with the Communications Manager to develop collateral to support information, campaigns, services and fundraising activities
  • Create press releases and briefing documents as necessary and build press lists for distribution
  • Record all media enquiries
  • Co-ordinate with external suppliers to deliver a range of communications materials
  • Liaise with media production outlets
  • Be an initial contact for press & media enquiries (including occasional weekends)

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience

  1. Min of 1 year in a communications/media/digital environment (or equivalent) would be beneficial
  2. Proven record of managing successful social media projects including recruiting followers​

Education

  1. Degree level or equivalent is desirable

Skills and Abilities

  1. Excellent ability to plan effective use of social media
  2. Excellent knowledge across all major IT, digital & social media platforms
  3. Experience of using WordPress
  4. Ability to pre-plan and manage content deadlines
  5. Excellent attention to detail including concise writing, editing and proofreading skills
  6. Ability to make sound editorial judgements
  7. Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive issues
  8. Ability to employ strong knowledge of safeguarding measures
  9. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  10. Ability to maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  11. Ability to initiate work as well as to follow instruction
  12. A proactive and flexible approach to work
  13. Ability to develop positive relationships with staff working in locations across UK
  14. An understanding of issues for people who have a learning disability
  15. To operate within the DSA's policies and strategy
  16. To help with occasional fundraising activities; this may involve out of hours work
  17. To undertake any other tasks that may reasonably be requested as part of the Communications Team
