Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities involve the following:

Delivery management

  • managing a team to provide timely delivery of financial reporting results for the appropriate business divisions, for all metrics (including but not limited to IFRS,  Solvency II and Economic Capital bases of reporting), meeting required internal and external standards;

Financial management

  • managing the team to deliver timely and predictable financial results across an agreed range of financial metrics (e.g. IFRS operating profit, Net Cash, New Business strain);
  • highlighting opportunities to maximise Business unit performance across the agreed range of financial metrics and challenging business plans and initiatives to ensure plans deliver the anticipated business benefits;
  • monitoring progress of the agreed plans and provide corrective measures where necessary;

Customer relationship management

  • managing the team to present and disseminate results to the external and internal customer, incorporating supporting analysis and commentary for all reporting metrics;
  • managing ongoing liaison by continually developing and maintaining proactive engagement to ensure the delivery of financial results continues to meet needs and quality expectations;

Process and Change management

  • managing the development, support and maintenance of the team’s financial reporting systems, processes and reporting methodologies to ensure that they are robust, incorporating system and process change as required for the ongoing production of the financial results;
  • identifying and managing the implementation of continuous improvement to processes;

Internal relationship management

  • managing the relationship with the relevant Shared Services and Policy & Oversight and Group Finance functions, ensuring that the Reporting team acquires and maintains end-to-end knowledge and accountability for the financial results relating to that Business Unit;
  • providing expert analysis to the UK L&P team to enable effective and efficient consolidation of results;
  • managing the relationship with the FRC Production Centre to ensure the Reporting team requirements are understood and documented in terms of timeliness and quality referencing the key dependencies on this service for the reporting cycle;

External relationship management – consultants, peer reviews and auditors

  • managing the relationship with the relevant external consultants, peer reviewers and auditors;

Planning

  • managing the Reporting team through all planning phases by effectively prioritising and scheduling the team’s reporting activities, meeting the needs of all customers;
  • contributing to wider FRC team planning and resource allocation;

People management

  • managing, motivating and developing employees at all levels, in a manner that is consistent with the company’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement, to maximise the performance of the area; and

Maintain and Comply with Standard

  • complying with the relevant Group and Professional Standards – for example L&G Spreadsheet Standards, L&G Group Policies & Procedures and Technical Actuarial Standards.

Essential Qualifications

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications

  • upper 2nd and above Math’s based degree; and
  • qualified Actuary – Institute Fellowship of Actuaries.

Essential Skills & Experience

The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:

  • excellent knowledge of reporting metrics including: IFRS, Solvency II and Economic Capital;
  • excellent  knowledge of Life Insurance Protection Products;
  • excellent knowledge of the Insurance sector;
  • excellent Insurance Financial Reporting experience; and
  • 3+ years’ post qualification experience within a Life Insurance company.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

It would be desirable for the successful candidate to have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • management experience of student actuaries;
  • experience liaising with senior stakeholders within the business including Financial Directors; and
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills.
