Head / Sous Chef - Award Winning School Contract Catering Team
We have a new exciting role available for an experienced Head / Sous Chef to join this highly professional and skilled kitchen team. This position offers an exceptional work life balance, offering a flexible approach to start and finish times, however you will predominantly be working school day hours in term time. The Role - Head / Sous Chef
As Head / Sous Chef you will be maintaining and delivering exceptionally high standards in a high quality, time sensitive school catering environment. You will work closely with the Kitchen Manager in the daily duties of running this successful food operation. With 8 food outlets on site, alongside outside catering and conference facilities this is a complex food operation which requires a strong candidate who can be pro-active and lead by example.
As this is an award winning catering team the highest standards of food preparation, delivery, presentation and cleanliness are paramount. Working in an extremely busy environment preparation and organisational skills are essential to ensure timings are strictly adhered to. The main lunch service provides meals for up to 2000 people within a 45 minute period, so teamwork is essential to ensure a smooth delivery. You will be involved in organising both kitchen and front of house staff to ensure not only the food is prepared correctly but that it is served in friendly and efficient manner, therefore positive student interaction is an important part of this role, maintaining good communication between staff and students.
Although the majority of working hours are school day hours working Monday to Friday, there will be some hours involved in outside catering and conferences. There may even be opportunity to work at other sites, for which all travel costs will be reimbursed with mileage provision. Due to safeguarding of the students you will also require a DBS certificate.
The Candidate
As Head / Sous Chef you will ideally have the following:
* Experience of working in a high pressured, time sensitive environment
* Quality, high volume hotel or contract catering experience would be preferred
* Be innovative, creative and passionate about cooking fresh, high quality food
* Successful track record of managing and motivating a kitchen team
* Ability to delegate tasks to ensure optimum results
* Ability to ensure the team follow specific guidelines, adhere to GP targets and all health & safety regulations
* Capability of maintaining exceptional high standards in food quality and presentation
* A hands on leadership style, a real team player with the ability to communicate well with all age groups
* Good organisational skills and a high level of self motivation with a flexible approach to working hours
* Thorough knowledge of food safety, allergens and dietary requirements
* Awareness of nutritional values and understanding the importance of providing healthy food to young students
