We currently have a requirement for a Deputy Housing Needs Manager in Peterborough on behalf of the Council. Please note this will be on a contracting basis for 6 months covering maternity leave.

You will be required to assist the Housing Needs Manager to develop an effective Housing Needs Services which meets the needs of the city and prevents homelessness.

To manage a team that delivers a range of customer & outcome focused services to people with accommodation needs.

To work in partnership with the other housing managers to create a holistic Strategic Housing Service.

Maintenance Responsibilities

To assist the Housing Needs Manager to manage and develop the Housing Needs Team to prevent homelessness across the City in accordance with national legislation, policy and initiatives

Undertake team management activities and ensure consistently high standards of service and levels of knowledge and understanding, through training and staff development

Staff management including PDRs, 1:1s and appropriate staff communication and meetings

To work with the Housing Needs Manager and other Housing Managers in Strategic Housing to ensure full knowledge of all aspects of housing across the service therefore delivering a holistic housing service to our clients

Implement monitoring arrangements to track outputs, outcomes, productivity and performance and report on these to Housing Strategic Management Team

Assist the Housing Needs Manager in the consultation on, drafting and publication of a new allocations policy and operations manual with documentation to guide partners and clients; in all cases using electronic as well as hard-copy formats

Assist the Housing Needs Manager in the development of the Homelessness Review and Homelessness Strategy Action Plan. Ensure that the plan is regularly updated and developed to meet the identified needs of the city.

Supervise and control the overall allocations function and lettings outcomes to ensure that clients are re-housed fairly and in line with the criteria and quotas contained in the allocations policy

Ensure a high level of customer care is delivered by staff to clients, colleagues and others coming into contact with the service

Resolve and and monitor compliments, complaints and appeals from clients and third parties as required.

Develop an effective partnership network to maximise the prevention of homelessness; continue to manage the use of temporary accommodation to keep occupation to a minimum and extend the range and flexibility of temporary accommodation itself

Improve working relationships with voluntary organisations and their clients

Requirements:

Must have knowledge and experience of housing allocations and homelessness, ideally with management experience and be available to start on the 8th September for a handover.

A detailed knowledge of Parts VI & VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the homelessness act 2002)

Team management with demonstrable experience of effective leadership through change

Of delivering front-line housing service provision

Service development and delivery that meets the needs of a diverse range of clients amidst pressures from a range of advocacy organisations

DBS and driving licence is required
