Calder is one of the UK’s leading building materials suppliers, delivering lead sheet and a wide range of ancillary products to builders’ merchants nationwide. In addition, Calder are also the UK’s leading specialist in lead engineering. The company designs, manufactures and installs radiation shielding and other products in the nuclear, medical and other markets.

So, what will the role of Process Operator entail?

Reporting to the C2 Team Leader, as a Process Operator you’ll be responsible for producing sheet lead using various machine methods such as rolling mill, slitter and saw operation and carry out the production of the manufacturing process on a designated production cell, in order to enable and control the following:

  • Achieving the production targets set for the department on a daily basis
  • Highlighting and communicating faults which may cause production delay
  • Ensuring all operating conditions are correct before commencing manufacture
  • Maintaining accurate records of production, and any other operational data as requested by the Team Leader
  • Ensuring the work area is kept clean and safe at all times
  • Promoting and adhering to the company’s system and procedures at all times

What will I need to be considered for this Process Operator role?

  • Previous experience operating machinery within a manufacturing / heavy engineering environment
  • A valid Counterbalance FLT licence
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A flexible approach to work
  • 5 GCSEs

A Reach FLT licence is desirable, however not essential.

What will I receive in return?

Basic Pay Rate: Starting at £9.06 per hour, rising to £10.11 per hour after probation

Shift Premium Rate: Starting at £11.33 per, rising to £12.64 per hour after probation

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 36 hours per week on a rotational shift patterns covering the following hours:

Early Shift: 6am to 2pm Monday to Thursday and 6am to 6pm Friday

Late Shift: 2pm to 10pm Monday to Thursday

The successful candidate will commence on the Early/Late shift pattern above, but must have flexibility to also work the 6am/6pm rotating shift pattern below as and when the pattern of work dictates:

6am-6pm days / nights rotating:

Shift 1: Monday - Wednesday (nights)

Shift 2: Wednesday - Friday (days)

Shift 3: Monday – Wednesday (days) + Thurs (night)

Location: Chester (Cheshire)
