Supplier Development Engineer

Competitive salary

40 hours per week

This role will be working within Technical Engineering, supporting the Engineering R&D deliver of technical innovation products into existing infrastructure or newly commissioned infrastructure.

The engineer will ensure the smooth transition into full operation of products and systems from the R&D group. They will identify and resolve issues within pilot trials, create preventative maintenance programmes and act as the primary technical point of contact for onsite operations and contractors.

This position will be to support the smooth transition of products from R&D Engineering into full operation, including overseeing the install of production ready systems.

Responsibilities

- You will be required to develop and manage relationships with a key stakeholders and contributors in the introduction into manufacture process.
- Create and manage daily technical progress reports identifying issues and risks and tracking KPIs.
- Analyses failures, identify root causes and implement solutions.
- Ensure that changes are rolled out across test fleets and configuration control is maintained.
- In conjunction with Ocado Engineering Operations develop training plans.
- Develop preventative maintenance plans and schedules including spares and equipment requirements.
- Ensure that in conjunction with Compliance engineering that the products are installed in compliance with all appropriate standards.
- The NPI engineer will be expected to work across a range of disciplines linking with the Technical leads within the R&D group.
- Actively participate in the Patent process for Ocado Engineering.

The place of work is Welwyn Garden City, but the role will require extensive presence at other UK and international locations.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

- An engineering/ science qualification, to HND or Degree level.
- Experience of new product introduction in areas such as high volume manufacture, automotive, airports, or FMCG distribution.
- Ability to build relationships from shop floor to management level, identify and clearly communicate key information and tailor the communication for the audience.
- Prioritise issues, communicate reasoning and negotiate for resources when needed.
- Both technical and commercial awareness.
- Ability to write work instruction and technical reports.
- Ability to design & propose alternative solutions when faced with barriers.
- Good technical ability (or experience) relating to automation hardware.
- Understanding of product reliability and reliability testing.
