Basic qualifications:

• Qualified Solicitor/Barrister admitted to practice law in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate, or similarly qualified in a non-UK jurisdiction (Please note: unless exempt under GSK Legal policy, foreign qualified lawyers will need to be able to be admitted to practice in England and Wales via the Law Society conversion procedure and passing this test will be within a prescribed timeline will be a condition of any recruitment)
• Significant relevant experience in commercial transactions and contract law, including supply of goods and services and other supply chain transactions, and advising on operational issues affecting a global/multi-jurisdictional business.
• Ability to operate effectively in an international team environment, and to engage proactively across a broad range of client groups.

Preferred qualifications:

• Sound commercial contract and transactional experience in a major law firm and/or in-house legal function (or a combination of appropriate business and legal experience).
• In-house experience in a multinational pharmaceutical or healthcare business, and/or experience of advising on, drafting and negotiating procurement, manufacturing and supply agreements in a regulated industry
• Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following legal areas, pharmaceutical law; manufacturing quality and regulatory environment and regulations; supply chain logistics ,trading models and related trade compliance matters;
• Working knowledge of competition law and intellectual property laws, and familiarity with anti-bribery and corruption laws and risk management and compliance frameworks.
• Fluent in English with excellent communication (oral and written) and negotiation skills required, together with ability to interact effectively all levels of GSK management, and internal and external business partners.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage numerous matters and competing priorities effectively, and work independently and in a team environment as required.
• Willingness to undertake domestic and international travel as required

Details:

Senior counsel role providing legal support to GSK's Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS) organisation. Advising on a broad range of legal, strategic and commercial issues affecting the GMS business, including drafting and negotiating significant commercial agreements and transactions and counselling on operational issues affecting GSK's pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare supply chains. The role will be based at GSK's UK headquarters in Brentford (GSK House) and will report to the UK-based Vice-President and Associate General Counsel, Legal Operations, GMS. Responsibilities include:
• Acting as the primary point of contact for certain operational or strategic client groups within GMS to ensure delivery and coordination of legal support, including global logistics and the supply chain compliance functions .
• Providing legal support on GMS related aspects of corporate/business development initiatives and other GMS strategic transactions including drafting agreements, performing due diligence and advising on GMS legal issues in connection with M&A activities, product acquisitions and licenses, product and manufacturing site divestments and integration activities.
• Drafting, negotiating and reviewing significant commercial contracts in support of GMS client groups and strategic initiatives, including agreements with suppliers relating to purchase/supply of goods and services, capital projects and IP licensing relevant to GMS business.
• Advising in relation to contractual disputes and participating in negotiations with third parties in connection with such disputes.
• Coaching and supporting more junior team members and supervising them on projects where required.
• Providing legal advice and support on other areas relevant to GMS client groups, including environmental, employment, anti-bribery, trade sanctions and export controls, quality and regulatory issues.
• Advising on GSK and GMS Legal and Compliance principles and policies relevant to GMS business.
• Participating in business meetings and providing legal advice to project teams responsible for delivering significant initiatives on behalf of the GMS organisation.
• Providing training and education to GMS client groups on Legal issues; developing contract templates, contracting principles and processes for resolving legal issues affecting the GMS client groups.
• Collaborating with Legal colleagues on GMS matters affecting their clients. Participation in Legal function teams, training and administrative activities.
• Managing external counsel and service providers within budgetary requirements.
