Supply Chain - Category Manager required for a leading global manufacturer of consumer products.

Due to their commitment to World Class manufacturing our client currently have a number of Manufacturing & Production Engineering, NPI and Quality focused openings within their Gloucestershire based operations.

Supply Chain - Category Manager Opportunity

Manages purchasing related functions for relevant supply category and the team of buyers and material controllers for Operations Purchasing. Receives and grants approval for purchases of goods or services. Analyzes changes or new issues in materials and supply to reduce costs and improve quality. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Responsibilities extend to managing departmental budgets and setting objectives for department. Drives achievement of performance metrics.

Ensures the business expectations of the direct materials supply base is achieved in terms of delivering excellent supplier performance in:

- Compliant quality
- Delivery on time
- Responsiveness and flexibility
- Lowest possible cost
- Support of innovation and introduction of new products
- Makes sure that good process integration and team working exists and is developed within and across the purchasing teams to maximise opportunity to improve supplier performance.
- To maintain practical experience through the practice of Category Management, takes responsibility for the management of a range of key categories directly.
- Records and reports Key Performance Indicators, to show achievement against plan, flexibility in response to business needs and the continual driving of opportunities for improvement.
- Drives process improvement for purchasing, materials, and customer service.
- Initiates and executes sourcing conversion/consolidation projects and other cost reduction initiatives.
- Project identification, management and leadership of a variety of, cross functional improvement initiatives. Assesses and recommends priorities for implementation.
- Ensure all objective setting and personal reviews are carried out for all team members. Proactively drives engagement within the team.
- Owns the commercial relationship with external suppliers on a day to day basis.
- Maintains links and ensure that all appropriate liaison and communication systems are in place with all external suppliers.
- Monitors and maintains a good payment record with external suppliers.
- Monitors and ensures timely response to engineering changes.
- Works closely with NPD purchasing team and Supplier Quality team.
- Capable of deputising for the Supply Chain Manager on occasion.
