Independent Advocacy Worker

Responsible to: Advocacy Operations Manager

Hours: Full time / 30 hour post ( pro Rata)

Occasional evening / weekend work required

Salary: £22,100 annum                                   

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work within Advocacy Matters Equal Opportunities framework for the provision of issue based advocacy, ensuring an anti-discriminatory service.
  • Based at Advocacy Matters office in Sutton Coldfield. To provide one to one advocacy City wide in across Birmingham
  • Responsible for delivering an efficient and effective direct advocacy service, ensuring a consistently high standard in maintained and delivered in an empowering framework.
  • To undertake appropriate training and qualifications required by the post and Advocacy Matters in a timely manner.
  • To liaise with a wide range of professionals within NHS and Adults and Communities, Third Sector and housing organisations in Walsall & Birmingham.
  • To regularly monitor and review Advocacy Plans with partners.
  • To work in forensic settings with adults with learning disabilities and those with Mental Health Issues
  • To educate and explain the role of Independent Advocacy to professionals, family, carers and care providers by delivering presentations/training.
  • To receive and process referrals efficiently and appropriately.
  • To manage case load effectively.
  • To maintain up to date case files to an excellent standard.
  • To produce a Risk Assessment for each advocacy partner supported.
  • To attend Advocacy Matters Team meetings, AGM’s and Social Events.
  • To attend formal supervision with Operations Manager every 4-6 weeks.
  • To work in a person-centred way including the advocacy partners at all times. Champion the use of advocacy services and the user’s voice in all activities.
  • To adhere to Advocacy Matters Policies and Procedures and at all times uphold Advocacy Matters’ good name.
  • To attend conferences and support with marketing and development of the charity.
  • To close advocacy files efficiently preventing dependency arising.
  • To facilitate service user groups across Walsall & Birmingham.
  • To continually record outcomes and impacts as a result of your advocacy support.
  • Any other business as and when required. 

The job holder will offer independent advocacy support to vulnerable individuals across a range of projects; Care Act Advocacy, Young People Advocacy and Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) across Birmingham area. Knowledge and experience in independent advocacy is desirable as is the Independent Advocacy Qualification (IAQ). 

A Full Enhanced DBS will be required for this position, this is a Fixed Term position until 31st March 2018.
