Audit Officer - Public Protection Support Unit

The Public Protection Support Team are seeking experienced Public Protection practitioners, to be based at Surrey Police HQ, Mount Browne, Guildford, although travel around the County of Surrey may be required.

The Role

To audit and review live and historic child abuse investigations and those investigations and incidents within the wider Public Protection portfolio including: Domestic Abuse, Vulnerable adults and Missing person. To ensure high standards are maintained regarding the safeguarding of primary, secondary and tertiary victims. To identify and escalate investigative and safeguarding risks, providing a high quality and professional service to those investigating PP offences.

Key Responsibilities

As the successful post holder you will be responsible for ensuring that Public Protection Investigations are conducted to the highest standard. You will need to identify risks with safeguarding or the investigations themselves and raise issues to your supervisor. You will be identifying best practice in conjunction with national guidance and helping to inform on changes to legislation and practice. You will be quality assuring against force policy regarding recording of crime and incidents.

Skills & Experience

• It is essential that you possess a sound knowledge or criminal law and procedure, with specific experience relating to Public Protection Offences being desirable.
• You should have experience in criminal investigation techniques and of managing criminal investigations.
• You should have a good knowledge of safeguarding and risk management, being able to identify risk, omissions and also best practice.
• You should have excellent verbal and written communication skills as you will be required to produce comprehensive reports to support your findings.
• A good knowledge of Microsoft Office is therefore a must.
• You will need to be a strong team player but also able to work independently.
• You will need to be able to prioritise competing demands whilst at the same time be able to react to fast time requests for specialist advice and support.

Additional Information

You must have completed, or be willing to undertake SCAIDP training and any other Public Protection training relevant to your role. The hours of work for this role are day shifts Monday to Friday. Interviews will be conducted 27th / 28th September
