Job Title: Graduate Network Engineer

Location: Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire

Salary: £18,000 - £21,000 per annum

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

The role is based at the company Headquarters in Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire. Our client will only consider applications from candidates who live within a commutable distance from head office.

Summary of the Role:

As an enthusiastic member of the networking team you will be involved in full network solution lifecycle work, this includes design, installation, implementation project work plus proactive and reactive support duties. The role is integral within our Client's Professional and Managed Services teams both of which strive to meet the Company's objectives which include working well with people, maintaining a quality and caring culture for both the department and wider business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be involved with the daily duties in our Managed Services team
  • Proactively monitor customer networks
  • Fault call analysis and diagnosis through to resolution
  • Communicate status reports to customers
  • To work with the existing Networks and Professional Service teams to complete installation and upgrade projects in an efficient, timely manner.
  • Design, Installation, Implementation and Documentation(A limited amount of onsite on-site work may be required)
  • Evaluate new products
  • Work with their second & third line Technical support team
  • Problem diagnosis through to resolution
  • Have an understanding of end to end network security solutions
  • Liaise with other Departments within MCSA to make sure the correct equipment

(hardware/software/licenses/paperwork) are onsite for aligned project work

  • Provide network related product/services and support information to our sales teams
  • Liaise with subcontractors when required
  • Keeping your networking knowledge updated and aligned with our business needs
  • Provide input in the Technical Services meetings on new processes, products, services & technologies
  • Ensure overall adherence to quality procedures and processes
  • To perform all tasks as directed by your line manager or Director of Technical Services

Candidate Requirements:

The ideal candidate must have a minimum 2:I degree qualification in a related computer science discipline and show evidence that they have studied topics such as the OSI seven layer model, bridges and switches, IP and routing, applications and security

It is therefore essential that the graduate is capable of:

  • Identifying the Elements and Interconnectivity of a Basic Network.
  • Defining the OSI and TCP/IP Reference Models.
  • Defining the advantages of different Network Layout Options.
  • Listing the Physical and Data-link Layers of the OSI and TCP/IP Reference Models.
  • Defining the Network and Transport Layers of the OSI and TCP/IP ReferenceModels.
  • Identifying the Service Layers within the OSI and TCP/IP Reference Models.
  • Defining the concept of Network Security
  • Previous internship, work experience or volunteer work in a network lab environment helpful.
  • Outstanding English language written and verbal communication skills and comprehension.
  • An eagerness to learn from others and be a team player.
  • Passionate about networking, IT and helping people.
  • Working towards or have a B.S. in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or a related discipline from a top-tier university. Complete degree necessary to begin work.

It would also be advantageous if the candidate was familiar with:

  • Wireless Networking Technologies. This will be required to effectively tie their existing knowledge of core networking to end-to-end networking solutions.

And it would also be desirable if the candidate had:

  • Experience in working in an SME environment as the candidate must be self-sufficient.
