About Wholesale Lending

The Wholesale Lending Transaction Cycle supports Corporate clients across the lending business and through the end to end process from Credit Analysis/underwriting through post sanction fulfilment, drawdown, collateral perfection, maintenance and release, financial monitoring and control, and general servicing throughout the life of the loan. The team has core UK and India site presence.

Overall Purpose of Role

  • The Role holder will be the primary subject matter expert and point of reference for Procedural / Process / Change / Project queries and issues within Lending Operations. The team covers multiple complex processes from Case Manager Receipt of a case, production of documentation in both the Facility letter /Collateral areas through to drawdown of funds and Perfection/Release of any Security Items. Lending Operations has a UK base and multiple sites/service providers offshore which together deliver the end to end Lending Service.
  • The Role holder will be responsible for oversight of quality & query escalation levels in Lending Operations - undertaking trends analysis & providing mitigating solutions for Leadership e.g. offshore query rate resolution & mitigation.
  • The Role holder will be the primary point of contact for Senior Leadership/Projects/Product re Lending Operations queries, including subject matter input & implementation/systems testing support of Process change / Systems change / Procedural or Policy change - impact assessing to ensure impact on both Onshore/Offshore operations is understood and surfaced to Leadership.
  • The Role holder will liaise with Offshore Colleagues to communicate & monitor embedding of Process/Procedural change into the offshore aspects of Lending Operations.
  • The Role holder will champion the development of a customer focused, high performing culture supporting continuous improvement of the operational process and the development of best practice.

  • Stakeholder Management & Leadership

  • The role holder will act as the point of reference for colleagues/Leadership/Projects in assessing the acceptability of new propositions received, providing expert guidance where amendment is required and also explaining the reasons behind why applications cannot be accepted.
  • The role holder will ensure that any technical pages are maintained, are accurate and any amendments are communicated to interested parties in a timely manner.
  • The role holder will ensure Operating Procedures (STOP) and Process Mapping databases are maintained and updated with changes/control changes and annually reviewed in line with requirements.
  • The role holder will own or support others re complex or involved bespoke cases on an ad hoc basis.
  • The role holder will be responsible for maintaining their own knowledge and that of the multiples teams across Lending Operations - via communications/buzz sessions/websites/root cause analysis.
  • The role holder will liaise regularly with counterpart offshore to support cross border delivery of the end to end client Lending transaction.

    Decision-making & Problem Solving

  • The role holder will act with autonomy, escalating to functional head only where necessary, providing detailed subject matter expert assistance and informed comment on all aspects of the process to Senior Leadership/Projects/Colleagues/New Product/Controls.
  • The Role holder will analyse and resolve processing standard and complex issues, identifying root causes and making recommendations for long term solutions ensuring Service & Risk balance.
  • The Role holder will champion change, identify and implement Best Practice, suggesting improvements to systems and processes and following through to implementation.
  • The role holder will provide a high level of technical support to Project Teams as product/process change is introduced to the Operation- from Design phase, through testing & implementation- this can include floor walking support in UK or Offshore as appropriate.
  • The role holder will monitor standards of accuracy for Offshore and Onshore staff and support issues resolution to reduce query volumes and communications/VCs etc. to support attainment of required levels & mitigation of issues/trend.
  • The role holder will continually review processes to identify and implement opportunities to improve working practices and search for better ways to service the customers, while maintaining required standards of control.

    Person Specification

  • Professional/Technical Experience - proven knowledge of lending procedures & processes e.g. collateral asset types, lending products and regulatory requirements e.g. Sarbox/Basle/Banking code.


  • Change Experience - a track record of supporting change in a volume processing customer centric environment with a right shored strategy having proven ability to analysis information quickly & identify innovative solutions.


  • Academic and professional qualifications - LEAN aware or experience utilising LEAN methodology in an operational context.


  • Language skills - excellent communication at all levels - verbal, written & presentation skills
