THE PLACE

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is seeking a dynamic and driven Start-Up Advisor to facilitate the delivery of an exciting new business support project across Essex as part of the Business Essex, Southend and Thurrock (BEST) Growth Hub. This is a brand new job being offered on a fixed term contract until June 2019 and is part funded by ERDF (European Regional Development Fund). THE JOB

As a Start-Up Advisor you will be helping the South East Business Boost project to utilise £6.4 million of ERDF funds to deliver an enhanced business support and business grant facility to SMEs across the South East Local Enterprise Partnership area Essex. The post holder will specialise in supporting individuals who are currently at the pre-start or start up stage with their business plans. Duties will include developing business plans, carrying out market research, providing advice on general business information and assisting businesses to apply for funding. You will be expected to develop innovative ways of finding and supporting new and existing clients to start their own business e.g. business information sessions, networking events, forums, and advisory sessions. This role will involve travel to various locations across Essex, including remote working at partner organisations.

THE PERSON

Excellent communication skills along with an ability to build and maintain relationships are essential for this job. You are expected to have strong business development experience along with a professional approach to managing and delivering business assessment, advice and development. This is a target driven role offering you the opportunity to assist fledgling businesses enable economic growth. You will therefore be expected to use your own initiative, knowledge and experience when supporting businesses. The post holder will provide practical, in-depth advice and help develop action plans. Due to locations, this role will be more suited to a driver as you are expected to move around the County. The job requires you to hold an SFEDI accreditation.
