IT and Business Services, which are part of Route Services are delivering services that are vital to the running of the railway, deliver the provision of services agreed by the routes to allow them to benefit from economies of scale and the optimisation of our critical resources. Every year we buy and deliver 2000km of rail and 2.5 million tonnes of ballast and operate 1200 rail vehicles. Behind the scenes we process GBP7bn of payments, handle over 23,000 IT helpdesk calls and make sure everyone's wages are paid on time.

Brief Description

To provide technical engineering input, support and advice across a designated engineering discipline.
The National Records Group / Business Services team is part of Route Services and our main focus is to deliver records management services to the routes. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within the isolation diagram team that delivers the following services: The custodianship of AC traction power related drawings for the routes. You will be responsible for adhering to the agreed process of updating all traction power isolation documentation. This service will provide real time records updates and management of isolation diagrams to support Network Rail projects and Operations. You will create bespoke drawings / diagrams to fulfil network rail safety case requirements as required. You will participate in the future management of Comprehensive Track Diagrams (CTDs) to facilitate future SCADA system requirements and the integration with the SCADA screen configuration processes. The role also includes participation in opportunities to develop the service to manage and control additional business critical records that detail our electrification assets on behalf of the routes. The National Records Group is a fully practiced managed department.

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities:
• Act as focal point for best practice and technical advice in own specialist area.
• Provide support for incident and technical investigation and analysis.
• Provide support for capability and performance assessment of options and designs.
• Support the delivery of activities required by Network Rail policy and standards, incorporating legislation and international standards as appropriate.
• Support the development of and work to agreed operational processes.
• Provide support for strategy, product and asset development.
• Identify and prioritise actions to address defects and deliver corrective actions.
• Schedule and undertake analysis and risk assessments and develop mitigating actions.
• Monitor and evaluate technical and related asset data.
• Undertake information management and record-keeping.
• Undertake and support Engineering Verification activities.
• Act as Delivery Manager for delivery of a specific project or portfolio of projects and deliver projects to time, cost and quality..

Job skills, experience and qualifications:

Essential
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Substantial experience in a relevant engineering area
  • Sound knowledge of relevant policies and standards
  • An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques


Desirable

• Degree in a relevant subject
• Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
• Project management experience and awareness of project management techniques
• Railway industry experience

We adhere to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range: GBP32,256 - GBP36,288
