ABOUT US

London Underground's (LUL's) Chief Operating Office has a team of three delivery units. Each unit is responsible for operations (stations and trains) and asset performance (track and signals, fleet and trains, stations and structural maintenance).

BCV is responsible for the Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo & City, and Victoria lines, and looks after 3,600 employees, 70 managed stations, 170 trains and 120 km of track.

SSL is responsible for the Circle and Hammersmith & City, District and Metropolitan lines, known as Sub-surface lines, and looks after 4,000 employees, 102 managed stations, 191 trains and 160 km of track.

THE ROLE

Working in the Stations team you will sit within Mechanical Delivery, which comprises of engineers working with the Facilities Management (FM) contracts. You will be responsible for the performance of external contractors delivering maintenance activities and reactive fault calls across BCV and SSL stations. You will also be involved in the delivery of minor works and project improvement works.

You will be responsible for the maintenance and reactive activities of all Mechanical assets within the LUL environment and ensuring that assets meet the required regulatory and engineering standards and perform to the required COO business plan. Your role will also be to manage maintenance, reactive and minor development work to line assets and ensure it is carried out to specification achieving performance levels agreed by the M&E Lead Engineer and Maintenance Manager in a safe manner compliant with statutory and LUL regulations, meeting standards set by the Head of Profession.

You will work closely with the FM Contractors in delivering maintenance and reactive fault calls on time and to the required standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Prepare and maintain knowledge of asset condition and individual whole life asset plans, in co-ordination with the delivery manager. Carry out site surveys and inspections in line with appropriate standards
  • Supervise resources undertaking asset management activities (incl contractors) Ensure statutory and contractual maintenance is completed to standard
  • Prepare maintenance and new works designs/specs for the assets to meet the needs of the business and comply with relevant standards
  • Manage the asset day to day to meet compliance with legislation and the requirements of LUL Standards and KPI's
  • Produce management level reports to monitor and control asset performance on a period by period basis
  • Prepare technical aspects of tender documentation and provide technical evaluations of tenders to facilitate competitive bids for maintenance, new and minor works projects
  • Prepare asset plans (both maintenance and renewal) and monitor performance/progress against plans, optimising cost/benefits
  • Deputise for Lead Engineer when required
  • Integration of new working practices as required
  • Attend periodic reviews of contractor performance
  • Encourage the development of new initiatives and working practices
  • Will be required to work 1 night in every 8 weeks audit and inspection purposes
WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Knowledge
  • A knowledge of mechanical systems such as Comfort Cooling, Boilers, Ventilation and others (Essential)
  • A HNC or NC in Building Services or other relevant discipline or prepared to work towards (Essential)
  • Knowledge of contract management (Essential)
  • Knowledge of LUL station assets (Highly desirable)
  • Hold a current Driving Licence (Desirable)
  • Hold a valid LUCAS certificate (Desirable)
  • Working knowledge of Ellipse LU Management System (Desirable)
  • Hold a recognised Health and Safety qualification (Desirable)
Skills
  • The ability to manage maintenance, reactive calls and minor works projects simultaneously prioritising where required (Essential)
  • Able to manage and communicate effectively with contractors and customers (Essential)
  • Good interpersonal, numerical and written skills (Essential)
  • Medium to high level of computer literacy (Essential)
  • Ability to work independently under own supervision (Essential)
Experience
  • Experience in supporting project environment role in relevant area (Essential)
  • Have experience in Building services (Essential)
  • Hold a relevant license in either gas safe or Legionella risk management (Desirable)
  • Experience in managing contracts (Desirable)
  • Railway Engineering Experience in the station environment (Desirable)
