Tooling Engineer
Our client is a global Aerospace manufacturing business specialising in machined components for some of the world's most reputable Aerospace clients.
They are currently seeking a Tooling Engineer to join the high performing team in Mansfield.
Purpose
- To manage tooling and fixtures for customers and programs.
Tooling Engineer
Responsibilities: -
- Ensure that tool management process conforms to AS9100 section 8.5.1.1 - Controls of Equipment, Tools, and Software Programs.
- Manage internal tooling database
- Manage Customer tooling database where applicable (Airbus ATAME)
- Liaise with NPI Program Management advising tooling concepts and designs. Manage tool and fixture manufacturers through design, manufacture, delivery and commission
- Liaise with Commercial and Estimating departments to gain budgetary quotes for new business tooling and tooling modifications due to engineering change.
- Liaise with Engineering, Quality and Business cells to determine tooling and fixture design using lessons learned and best engineering practice methods.
- Where tooling and equipment is issued by the customer, liaise with the relevant Customer Engineering team to establish an agreed buy off/commissioning process.
- Establish a routine maintenance, calibration and verification routine for all current tooling. Document all activities. Ensure all tooling identification is up to date detailing calibration/maintenance periods and current part issue.
- Establish legacy tooling return to customer process.
- Where applicable arrange suitable training for the Operations team. Produce any requires visual aids and/or standard operation g procedures.
- Own and manage the internal tooling log.
- Complete any quality audit, answerbacks raised against you.
- Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required within the jobholder's capability, consistent with the terms and conditions of employment.

Changes in the laws of the country, technology, customer demands and requirement to improve efficiency for the survival of the company, may require changes to be made at future times. Qualifications, Skills, Attributes and Experience required: -
- Minimum of an engineering apprenticeship preferably backed up with an ONC/HNC, substantial experience and knowledge of production / manufacturing methods is essential as well as a background in tool and fixture design and methods.
Practical experience of at least one of the following disciplines: -
- Sheet Metal Work, Machining, Fitting, Assembly, Welding, Metal Treatments.
- Excellent project management and administration skills.
- A minimum of 5 years in an engineering environment ideally within the Aerospace sector.
