Great Gaddesden Primary School is a picturesque village school, which is committed to combining a caring Christian ethos with high aspirations for our pupils. We are seeking a values-led Headteacher who is excited about building a creative curriculum to support academic achievement. Pupil numbers have grown in recent years, reflecting the improvements made in all areas of the school's work; we now have nearly 90 pupils on roll which is the highest for over ten years.

  • Are you passionate about teaching and learning, and keen to take on a headship that keeps you close to the classroom?
  • Do you want a leadership role that gives you the opportunity to develop strong relationships with every child and family in the school?
  • Could you head up a close-knit community, and develop our experienced and committed team of staff?
  • Are you excited about building an innovative curriculum that inspires each individual child?

This is an exciting opportunity for a Headteacher to build on the progress made at the School, and to lead a community where children and staff are enabled to learn and flourish. We are seeking a Headteacher who leads by example; someone who builds a sense of community by creating strong and collaborative relationships.

We were delighted with our Ofsted inspection of March 2016 which judged us to be Good, and the personal development, behaviour and welfare of our pupils to be Outstanding. The report noted that the school is an 'environment where pupils can thrive.'

Our recent SIAMS Inspection in January 2017 highlighted how 'the strong relationships between all members of the school community are based on their commitment to develop the strong Christian ethos of the school' and 'the impact on behaviour, attitudes to learning and pupils' enjoyment of school is very strong.'

This role offers the chance to:

  • Be a leader, supported to give of your best by a committed Governing body
  • Also still spend time in the classroom, exercising your passion for teaching and learning
  • Build close links with families and the local Church community
  • Work in a lovely rural setting, in a job that is at the heart of the village
  • Further your own career and develop expertise in all aspects of leading a school

We are looking for someone:

  • Whose personal values and approach shine through and set the tone for the school
  • Who has high aspirations to drive improvements in learning and achievement
  • With leadership experience and an empathetic approach that will enable them to bring out the best in our staff
  • Who is prepared to marry strategic leadership with a hands-on approach to jobs that need to be done, to enable the school to thrive on a day to day basis
  • Who has the commitment to Christian values and the interpersonal skills required to build on the school's links with both the Church and the local community

We encourage prospective candidates to visit during the school day to explore whether Great Gaddesden is the right place for their next leadership challenge, and to meet our wonderful children and staff. Please contact the school office on to make arrangements. Please email if contacting the school during the holidays.
