Based in the Ultrasonics and Non-destructive Testing research group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol you will undertake internationally-leading research as part of the EU project ADVISE, funded by Horizon2020. The work is motivated by the drive to improve safety and identify solutions for safe long-term operation of existing power stations. The aim of the project is to enhance - and in some cases - to enable for the first time the ultrasonic inspection of the complex structured materials used in modern power stations.

The University of Bristol is the project lead of WP3 - Advanced Inspection Methods, in which the researcher will perform most of the research. You must have a first degree in Engineering, or a Physical Sciences subject, and a PhD/EngD that demonstrates your ability to apply rigorous mathematical methods to solve practical problems. In addition, you should have experience in signal processing, numerical simulation, ultrasonics and non-destructive testing. The work will involve numerical simulations and laboratory-scale ultrasonic array experiments. You will be part of an international research project team with partners from across Europe. You will be expected to present your work at regular project review meetings and there will be opportunities to present key findings at various international meetings and conferences.

This post is being offered on a full time, with funding for 4 years, starting around MID-September 2017.

Informal enquiries can be made to: Professor Bruce Drinkwater

It is expected that interviews will be held shortly after the closing date.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
