Lead Packaging Engineer

Are you an experienced Lead Packaging Engineer looking for a new role? We are working with our client who is based in Frome who are looking to expand their engineering department.

The purpose of the Lead Packaging Engineer;

• To have overall responsibility for maintaining efficient operation of the site filling and packing equipment.
• To ensure that other than planned downtime the filling and packing equipment is available and running at optimum levels at all times.
• To be proactive in meeting site requirements by reducing filling waste and minimizing utility usage in the filling and packing area.
• To ensure all staff under your control are fully trained and conversant in all current and future site filling and packing equipment.

The duties of this role involve;

• Be responsibility for maintaining efficient operation of the packing equipment.
• Be responsible for the packing engineers, manage their day to day activities and their planning
• To ensure that other than planned downtime the packing lines are available and running at optimum levels at all times.
• To be proactive in meeting site requirements by reducing waste and minimizing utility usage in the packing area.
• Ensure that the product that we produce is of the highest standard by not compromising the process & plant with short term fix's
• To have overall responsibility for maintaining efficient operation of the packing equipment
• Support the manager on deciding the frequency and scale of maintenance necessary to optimise factory performance.
• Find innovative ways of improving the operation and efficiency of the packing lines.
• Leading a team to analyse the cause of breakdowns and take appropriate action to avoid a reoccurrence.
• Gather engineer process team and packaging team
• Answer to the emergency situation night and day if necessary
• Develop the skills and knowledges of the engineers and ensure that everybody have the same level
• Use continuous improvement techniques and best practice to improve machine efficiencies.
• Deliver and develop effective re-active maintenance, repairs & improvements
• Use of and feedback on, appropriate spares required
• Provide correct and effective communication to all Managers
• Generate and complete work orders on the CMMS.
• Participate in shift hand-overs
• Help develop and implement effective PM schedules
• Support and achieve the engineering KPI's.

Decision making aspect of the role involves;

• Problem solving ie deciding the best solution for engineering problems with the resources available.
• Decide what additional work and spares may be required.
• Methods of improving operations
• You will be required to advise managers on actions to be taken to resolve unusual situations ie flooding fire alarms breakdowns etc.

Knowledge, skills and experience required for the role of Lead Packaging Engineer;

• Multi-skilled engineer
• Excellent fault finding and route cause analysis skills
• Experience of working in a FMCG environment
• Some supervisory experience would be beneficial
• Comfortable in autonomous decision making and team working.
