Grounds and Maintenance Operative based in Oswestry, Shropshire offering a salary of £17,882

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Grounds and Maintenance Operative to support the grounds and maintenance teams and contribute to the appearance and quality of the college environment including building maintenance/repairs, support refurbishments and an array of other property services. 

The role of Grounds and Maintenance Operative: 

  • General building maintenance
  • Maintenance of existing planting schemes, including weeding, mulching tidying and pruning.
  • Ensuring walkways are maintained including laying paving
  • Construction of fences and walls as required
  • Litter clearance and assistance with waste management
  • To use and maintain basic hand tools and light machinery
  • To use cylinder mower, rotary mowers, strimmer’s, leaf blowers and jet washers
  • Keep college clean and tidy
  • Ensure college grounds remain tidy, attractive and safe including snow and ice clearance
  • Supporting other maintenance tasks, such as help with erecting and dismantling marquees, preparation for events (including the college fete), marshalling and car parking.

The ideal Grounds and Maintenance Operative:

  • Proven success in a similar role
  • City & Guilds relevant qualification would be desirable
  • Applicant should be self-motivated with the ability to work using own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Keen interest in DIY
  • Handy with a screw driver
  • Be creative and have an eye for detail
  • Experience in the use of powered equipment and ride on machinery is essential.
  • Skills set may include building work, carpentry, bricklaying, landscaping, basic plumbing, tiling and decorating
  • Flexibility in the role as well as being prepared to carry out other tasks if required, including support driving duties
  • Must have full driving licence and be able to tow.
