Purpose of Job
To conduct the mechanical development testing and analysis to support the delivery of engine and vehicle engineering programmes.
Duties
To supervise engine and vehicle build and test work, ensuring work is carried out according to the required procedures and in-line with project requirements
To work together with designers and development engineers as part of wider project teams
To create test requests, analyse test results and prepare technical reports
To design parts for development testing
To liaise with program suppliers, internal and external customers and represent the Verification Department at meetings when required
Responsible for the quality of the test data, results analysis and reports
Responsible for adhering to or seeking deviation for the development procedures
Responsible for the clear instruction of MPT staff using the appropriate procedures and forms
Responsible for feeding back test results to the internal and external customer in a timely manner
Responsible for drawing conclusions and making recommendations from results obtained subsequent to test work
Contribute to departmental process development
Qualifications
A Degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering, or HND coupled with relevant experience.
Membership of a Professional Body is desirable
Skills and Experience
Experience of engineering preferably gained within an automotive environment
Knowledge and working experience of quality systems and procedures is advantageous
Essential skills to support the work include:
A general level of computer literacy
Knowledge of general engineering fundamentals
Numerical and analytical skills
Report writing and time management skills
Spatial awareness
Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings
Able to supervise the work of others
Familiarisation with Instrumentation techniques and hardware would be an advantage
Competencies
Ability to work on own and as part of a team
Confidence to communicate effectively at all levels
Must be self-motivated and possess the drive to complete tasks in a timely manner
Ability to work well under pressure and to strict time constraints
Flexibility and willingness to travel to customer sites
