Are you an experienced professional who thrives on making a difference? Are you looking for a career opportunity that offers you the chance to be part of a team that helps create a better Scotland? We are looking for talented Senior Auditors who are passionate about making sure that public services are run efficiently and effectively to join our Performance Audit and Best Value team.

The posts can be located in one of our centrally located offices, either in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Both offices are a 10 minute walk from a train station.

We are Scotland's public sector auditor and independent of Government. We employ around 280 talented professionals who know that their work helps ensure the efficient and effective delivery of public services across Scotland.

Above all, we are a world class Audit organisation that improves the use of public money, and one of our guiding principles is valuing our people.

How can you help us...

As a Senior Auditor within our Performance Audit and Best Value team, you can look forward to delivering performance audits on issues such as Scotland's new financial powers, health and social care integration, broadband and higher education in Scotland's universities. You will also be involved in Best Value audits of councils, annual reports on the performance of the NHS, local government and colleges and dealing with correspondence from a range of stakeholders, including members of the public. You enjoy developing and motivating staff in audit teams and communicating with key stakeholders.

The role is challenging, but we will support you every step of the way and we are confident that you will find it both rewarding and career-enhancing.

The role will involve some travelling. It may involve occasional overnight stays and unsocial hours.

The Performance Audit and Best Value team???

Our work highlights areas where services could improve, how public bodies can plan for the future and where money can be saved without reducing the quality of public services.

Working for Scotland's public spending watchdog will be challenging. But equally, it's extremely rewarding, so we have put in place a very competitive and attractive package. Don't just take our word for it, we were voted 2016 One to Watch status by the Sunday Times Best Companies Survey.

Specific knowledge and experience...

You are educated to degree level (management, research or professional qualification) or have demonstrable, relevant experience plus a good understanding and experience of:

  • the Scottish public sector
  • methodologies associated with evaluating financial and service performance as well as other types of scrutiny
  • using performance management to assess and improve public services
  • strong numerical and analytical skills
  • analysing complex problems and delivering practical, realistic and workable solutions
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders
  • coaching and developing people
  • good project and time management skills
  • presenting balanced findings and convincing and persuasive recommendations
  • taking responsibility for your personal development in order to perform effectively and set an example to others around you
